<<Did you like WINTUCK!?>>

We were told on good authority to skip it so we did. We ended up see The Lion King in its new home - which reminded me what a truly wonderful theatrical experience that show is.

In the end only one new show in '07 excited me - and that was Finding Nemo The Musical. The best show to ever be staged inside a Disney theme park bar none IMHO. It would give Disney Theatrical a run for its money on Broadway too if they decided to expand it.

<<Oh thank God !! I can';t wait. This show would be perfect for Broadway. It has adult "feel" at least.>>

The show in Berlin definitely wasn't to my taste but the expanded score and musical numbers were incredible. Esmeralda is still one of my favourites and I loved having both God Help The Outcasts and Someday have a purpose.

We actually did a lengthy interview with Stephen Schwartz about his Disney output this week which will be in an upcoming issue of Tales to follow on from our Alan Menken and Phil Collins stories. S

We saw it and and it was 'ok' ... glad you skipped it.

Agreed 100%.

I love the music for this and I hear some of the music in WICKED - which is also fantastic.

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN was very good. Good solid Broadway "schlock" and you leave feeling good.

Well, TLM has an adult feel to it too. How else would you explain the cast dancing around half naked? Really, isn't there anyway that they could make them look more like sea creatures and less like people taking a vacation near the sea?

If anybody is interesed, there are some full length videos online of Part of Your World and Under the Sea. After watching them, I would say that they both have their definate flaws. Under the Sea seemed like it was really gounded on the stage, and the minimalist set makes that even more obvious. I'm no expert in dancing by any means, but the coreography just looks really cheesey to me. And they're still all half naked for no apparent reason (I understand the mermaids being naked, but do the starfish need to be naked too?). I kind of liked the barnacle guy, since it looked like he had a "dick in a box" box, which made me chuckle. Sebastian is still about two ocataves too high for my preference, but I can see how that would be a personal thing.

For Part of Your World, the staging is beyond dull. While it may be a nice break from the action in the real show, it was a poor choice to perform like that for TV with no frame of reference. That song seemed like it would have the potential for a really cool set (a cave that surrounds the stage, or something that moves and keeps changing), but they seemed to take the simple route on this one. I don't know if simple is the new trend in stage shows, but here it just comes off as a little cheap. In both songs, I'm a little disappointed in the use of the wheels on the shoes, but that may come across better when they are doing it for entire scenes. While neither are terrible, I would hardly say that either one is great either. Certainly a lot better than that Titanic musical I saw...

Ferret, I think I like your use of words...Under the Sea does look too grounded on the stage...It is almost as if they got half way there but not all the way...I first thought it looked like theme park entertainment...Now I am beginning to believe it all looks like a really bad drag show with a Vegas budget....

And I have to throw this in...I love Ursula's costume...But I hate the mermaid tail bit on Ariel...It looks like some really weird appendage sticking perpendicular(sp?) out of her body...Are her hips really that wide or is the costume...Regardless, I am not at all interested...
