I used to love Knott's (and see the "Knott's vs. DL" thread to see a lot of opinions on this), but the last time I went I was just sooo let down. It's still a FUN place, but no longer an amazing place - and the sad thing is, it used to be, but it's losing its soul. |

No it isn't. |

Wow, that's quite a statement. It's all starting to come together now. |

I think Holiday World claims that title. |

BUT any definition that adequately describes what Disneyland is and has been, does not--in any way--describe any other park existing prior to 1955.
So sorry for Knott's, but that's the truth. |

| Hans Reinhardt Mon 12/3/2007 1:29p | I do believe that Holiday World actually had thematic "lands" before Disney introduced DL in 1955. In any case Hhow Knott's can get away with their claim is beyond me. |

It added different sections (for Halloween and 4th of July) later. Same with Knott's. That's why I always consider DL the first true theme park, because they had different sections with different themes, all distinct, rather than a bunch of ghost town buildings next to a ride or two and a restaurant (which was Knott's in 1955), or a Santa's Village with a few kiddie rides and shops (which was Holiday World in the 50's). |

This park sets itself apart from the rest of the theme park industry in its own way. And The Voyage wooden roller coaster is one of the best coasters you could ever ride!! |

| Dabob2 Tue 12/4/2007 7:29a | I've been to Holiday World several times, and it really is quite nice. They now have three world-class woodies, and a few decent non-coaster rides. It isn't the ride-junkie place a Six Flags or Cedar Point is, but it doesn't try to be. It sets itself apart with a laid-back friendly atmosphere, and underscores that with things like the free parking and free sodas. Plus they even give free sunblock at the water park (which is included in the same price as the theme park); every other water park charges an arm and a leg if you forget to bring your own sunblock.
And it does have a claim on being the first theme park, although what was there was certainly very modest in the 50's (and really, pretty much until they expanded from "Santa Claus Land" into "Holiday World" in the 80's). |
