I am thinking about planning a trip for next year for the week of Thanksgiving. I am thinking Wednesday to Monday. We keep saying we want to see the resort decorated for Christmas (every year we say so!), so we have decided to go next year for sure. So that is my first question.....when do the decorations go up?

Do any of the other holiday things go on this early? Like Osbourne Family Lights, MVMCP, Candlelight Processional?

This will be the baby's first trip, he'll be a year and a half then. Is this a crazy busy time to think of going? We would be going more for the holiday stuff than for attractions, especially at his age.

I am hoping that isn't too early to enjoy some of the holiday festivites. We would probably be going with my mother and stepfather and three younger brothers. So while I was thinking of going at the beginning of December instead, Thanksgiving has some benefits for us. For one, my older son and my two brothers will only miss two days of school this way and we can stay longer than just doing a Friday to Monday thing. My other brother who is in college can come meet us as well and not miss classes if he just comes for the long weekend.

Also anyone who has done WDW at Thanksgiving I would love any input you have. TIA!

Having just arrived back from being there over Thanksgiving I can cover most of this for you...

Decorations, if you're talking going from the day before Thanksgiving to the end of the weekend after, then you should see everything, Xmas at Epcot tends to start the day after Thanksgiving, everything else was up and running from the week before this year. Osborne lights, MVMCP, Xmas parade at AKL, decorations in the parks and in the hotels, should all be up for the dates you're talking about..

Is it crazy? Yes, it was the busiest this time that I've ever seen it during the Thanksgiving week, this wasnt too much of a problem for us, as we'd been there the week before also, but when we went to Epcot the Monday of that week Test Track was over 1hr 30 all day, and I never saw Soarin less than 2hrs.

MK was BUSY, just walking around was enough to make me crabby, and although we didn't attempt to do any rides, POTC (which was the only one I saw) was over an hour, this was on the Saturday you would be there. I'm not sure how it would compare to other busy times of the year, it may be just that I'm accustomed to visiting during off times so it threw me. If you're pretty much there for the decorations, then given some judicial use of fastpass you may be ok...

Like I say, in terms of the Xmas stuff it would get you everything, so if that's your main aim, and it gives you a better time spread then I guess go for it...

PS. Why couldn't it have been this year when I was there!!!

Anything else feel free to shoot me an email, you know where I am...

Also planning to do Thanksgiving week ( 10 days or so) next year, although I might change that to Christmas ...just finalizing. Year end is harder for me to get away from work for any period of time - so likely it will be Thanksgiving. When does MVMCP start ?

If you can swing it I recommend the week AFTER Thanksgiving. We just got back and never waited in line longer than 20 minutes (although our last day, Saturday, we did see the Expedition Everest line get up to 50 minutes).

vbdad, no guarantee on next year, but this year the first one was I believe the 12th November. There was certainly one on the 16th as we watched the holiday wishes fireworks from the balcony at the Cali Grill :)

Years ago a friend went down just to have Thanksgiving dinner at the Hoop De Doo. Don't know if they still put it on, but he said it was a great turkey dinner.

We had thanksgiving dinner at Boma, most places were offering a dinner at the resort and park hotels, be aware though that you need to be on the phone ASAP, ie. if you're onsite then 180 days out at whatever time they open in the morning (before if possible) everything filled up quick.

Boma was great for us, as it had lots of other options as well as some Thanksgiving stuff (Turkey etc) but if you're looking for traditional then this may not be the place for you.
