The main problem that I see is that the movie is supposedly shot from a victim's camcorder, which may make a lot of jerky hand-held imagery which does not translate well to a large screen. I remember the Blair Witch Project doing this, and I felt a little queezy watching it in the theatre with all the bouncing around and sudden camera changes. I hope the same doesn't happen to this film.

The one is straight out of 9/11, with the big dust/debris plume surging down the street.

I know this'll put me solidly in the minority, but that's pretty much why I'm not going to see it, unless it gets stellar reviews.
J.J. Abrams definitely has some talent, but he really needs to hone it a bit more. I stuck with Lost for a while, but now I find it to be the most irritating show on television. I can only handle so much "let's blow the audiences' minds without having any kind of plot or story resolution in mind" so many times.
I picture the writers room on Lost as something like this:
Writer 1: "Dude, then we'll totally have Hurley's cursed numbers be on the tale of the plane."
Writer 2: "Oh man, that's blow people's minds - they'll be trippin'!"
Writer 1: "I know, seriously!"
Writer 3: "But...what do the numbers mean?"
Writer 1: "What?"
Writer 3: "I mean, what do the numbers mean, how will it be part of the story structure later in the show?"
<Silence.>
Writer 2: "Oh man, people are gonna freak!"
Writer 1: "I know, it'll be so awesome!" |

For the record... I'm looking forward to the movie. I'm not looking to be amazed by it though, just seriously entertained for about 2 hours.
