>> "...and now I can't remember who's funeral Jack attended last season." <<

The person wasn't identified. That was one of the key mysteries from the season finale.

I would guess that the person who died might have been one of the "Oceanic Six", although it also is possible it could have been Ben or someone else that wasn't originally on the plane.

I really liked the episode last night. It didn't have any huge revelations or even exceptionally large plot developments, but I wouldn't really have expected that in the season premiere. I did think it had a lot of really effective character moments, though, and I especially thought it was great that they basically managed to involve all the characters to some degree.

The "flash forwards" are definitely creating an intriguing new direction for the show. In some ways, it is almost a full reversal for the show, with the island scenes now largely being the ones that are filling in the gaps. I think that could really give it a creative boost.

I just hope that the abbreviated season doesn't essentially throw a monkeywrench into the whole plan for it.

Did anyone pick up that Hurley's flash forward was before Jack's?

^^ Yep, I got that, Dar.

I missed the vast majority of last season because of the later timeslot (though I do have it on DVD now; just need to find the time to watch it, lol), but I found it ever so easy to jump back into this new season.

I loved it. Hurley's still my main man, so a Hurley-centric episode to launch the season made me so glad. I got very teary at a few scenes, especially Claire & Aaron standing alone on the beach while everyone is reuniting & she's looking for Charlie, and then, of course, when Hurley told her the bad news.

As for the Oceanic Six, I couldn't come to a satisfying conclusion all last night on who the other three would be. I would hope that Jin & Sun would go together, but I'm just not so sure about that. Locke wouldn't go, and neither would Rose (and if she wouldn't, Bernard wouldn't either). I'm not sure about Sawyer. I'm thinking he's a no by how Kate & Jack both get off the island. I'm just gonna have to think about this one.

Sorry to double-post, but I missed this earlier:

Yeah, I kind of had that thought, too, that Ben may be one of the Six.

I kind of liked when Sawyer asked Hurley if he wanted to talk about Charlie's death. Nice change to his character.

^that moment all i was thinking was "good job hurley" for all the stuff he put sawyer through with the "you're our leader now" and the "no more nicknames" stuff.

Also my thought is that Juliet may be the one in the coffin, we know she wants to get off the island, so she probably came with them, but we haven't seen her in any flash forwards even though we know there's a sort of love "quadrangle" going on there.

That is totally Christian Shepherd in the rocking chair, white sneakers. Whuuuut with the moving cabin. It is sounding as if the oceanic 6 may return to the island at some point. It was sometime after Jack saw/spoke to Hurley that he thinks he should go back, too. "they need you hugo" eek

The "lawyer" at the mental hospital name, Oceanic's lawyer, Matthew Abbadon (Lance Riddick) Abaddon, variation on spelling, is defined as "a place of destruction," or "the gates of hell" or as "the destroyer" from Hebrew (variation on the Greek).

Oh, man, Abbadon creeped me out something fierce! He was just so creepy, and I just felt so bad for Hugo during that scene. I wonder if we'll see him again.

Now I remember that DH and I thought it was Ben's funeral last year. I guess we know there were only 6 who left the island,so that may be less likely. Interesting thought that it might be Juliet. Hmmm, I hope the writers finished that mystery before the strike.
