<< How early on Wed. am; 12:01 am or 6:00 am? >>

When it's worked for me, I've just checked in the morning after I've gotten to work. I'm on the west coast, so it's not like you have to log in at midnight to fight over a handful of seats.

I'm told it's standard practice for most of the major carriers. (I first learned about this practice from an article in the WSJ). I know it seems to apply to Delta, since that's the carrier I end up on most frequently.

Do you normally go straight to the different carriers websites or is there a good website that looks at a variety of carriers?

I normally use Expedia to get a quick scan of the going rates on any particular day. Some of the low cost carriers, e.g. Southwest, don't show up there. If I see a rate on Expedia I like, I'll usually go to the carrier's site to see if I can find anything better on that particular route. There usually isn't a difference. I get extra frequent flier miles by booking directly with some carriers, though, which is reason enough to go directly to them instead of a 3rd party even if the price is the same.

Yeah, right now airfare from where I live to Orlando is running about $425 and up. I can't believe it!! I was hoping to pay around $250 round trip at the most. I have downloaded Ding and will keep monitoring it. We fly out at the beginning of August.

Anyone have any experience with Allegiant air? We are flying direct from Bangor to Orlando for $189 return..It was the best price I could find by far!

Southwest is my carrier of choice. But I actually live pretty close, and drive 12 hours with my family rather than fly. When flying I use Southwest because they are cheaper.
All times are Pacific Time (US)
