Kristy is proof that looks do sometimes make a difference. I did think it was funny when she told the judges "sorry you have to hear it again."

One good thing about last night's show:

The announcement that next week's show will have more Beatles songs!

Since the whole idea of each week is to see who can sing a variety of music types, I don't think they should repeat the genre. I know there is a lot to choose from here but i think they should continue to change it up each week. I found about half of Tuesdays performance boring. I hope at least those who bored can step it up the second time around.

<<I thought David C. showed some attitude, and not in a good way, last night. Very self-satisfied looking, and when Ryan said he was safe, he had this look like "was there any doubt?">>

I didn't notice, but I imagine any look of cockiness, or at least a look of confidence, comes from reading the internet. On Idol fans boards, it is pretty apparent who is popular and who is not. I am sure that the reason why Kristy was ready to grab the microphone.

Glad David H. went home. I like Kristy's voice but she butchered the song by the arrangement she chose. Hope she does better next week even though she will not stay for too much longer. Carly and Brooke have better voices.

Wow - a really boring show tonight. There is such a thing as too much Beatles after all.
I lost my little note sheet, and the only two performances I can remember or cared about were Chikezie and Carly - and I actually didn't like the ballad start on Chikezie's "I've just seen a face" Looks like none of the judges saw "Across the Universe" or they might have recognized the bluegrass version of that song.

Really boring song choices tonight.

I think David Cook's hair is starting to look a little bit like what Donald Trumps might have looked like as a young man. :P

Mostly what I remember from last night is thinking I just want to hug Jason C - the boy is ADORABLE despite being a frickin' Aggie.

Also, I still have no use for David A. and his mouth-breathing. How uncouth.

Oh, and Michael Johns should have done MUCH better and what was he thinking using that arrangement of "A Day in the Life?" Hated the arrangement, but I still adore this man.

Oh, and Kristy Lee Cook - OMG, she said she NEVER listened to the Beatles! WHat kind of horrible upbringing did this child have? DANG!

Oh, and I didn't like Amanda's performance - it was soooooo weird to see her smile that much. Just like if I saw my buddy Andra all happy & giggly - just WRONG. As a reminder, Andra is my friend who sings with Big Brother and the Holding Company (Janis Joplin's band) and just ROCKS. Oh, man - what a voice on Andra! She's like Janis Joplin but with TALENT.

Anyhow, looking forward to the results!

Oh, and just to show how much I LOVE me some Michael Johns - I voted for him about 60 times last night because he REALLY didn't do as well as he could have had he not had a butchered arrangement of a song.

Ah - and did anyone else not really like Carly's arrangement of "Blackbird" OR know what the heck Simon was talking about before the song about an oil spill and the blackbird was a sparrow?

Amanda (Back in the USSR): Not horrible, but too reminiscent of last week. She needs to pick rockers with a little soul or attitude to them - that's her wheelhouse.

Kristy (You've Got to Hide Your Love Away): Good choice for her, but she blew it. I don't mind some fiddling with the melodies (done judiciously, it can help), but you don't sing the TITLE line incorrectly, every time, the same incorrect way. Which she did. And as Simon said, bluntly, she really isn't that good a performer. This is also her second weak week in a row, and I think that could doom her.

David A. (The Long and Winding Road): Thinking of which songs the various singers might/should choose, I actually thought of this one for David. And he did it well. Not a "master class" as Simon said, but he sang it very well.

Michael (A Day in the Life): Audacious choice. And I think if he hadn't botched the lyrics (for his last verse he actually included lines from THREE different verses!), he might actually have pulled it off. But he should have actually played up the different sections more, emphasizing rather than downplaying their difference. That would have made it work; instead, it just sounded like truncating a 5 minute mini-epic into a minute and a half. It also didn't really show off his sex appeal, which is probably his strongest suit.

Brooke (Here Comes the Sun): I love this song. It's one of my favorite songs ever. I could listen to the original all day. But it's not a singer's song. It has a very limited range, and no held notes. It's a marvelous song, but not one that showcases the singer at all. Bad choice. But she'll survive it.

David C. (Day Tripper): He certainly is comfortable on stage, gotta give him that. I was glad Simon warned him about smugness, because that's a danger for him. Still, it was one of the more solid performances on a mediocre night overall.

Carly (Blackbird): I liked it better than the judges. I was only liking it okay for the first 2/3, and then she very cannily changed key and the whole thing went to another level. She also has beautiful tone. I liked it.

Jason (Michelle): Simon was absolutely right when he said if it was radio rather than TV, he'd be in trouble. Just not sung very well, but his dimples and his "oops" face probably saved him.

Syesha (Yesterday): She impressed me here; this song has been sung by everybody and his brother, so you have to really invest yourself in it, or there's the danger it will just slide by in a boring way. But she did invest herself in it, and it worked. And she looked great.

Chikezie (I've Just Seen a Face): Loved the beginning. Along with Carly, he has a really pure tone that's very, very pleasing. Slowing down this famously fast-lyric song was a risk that paid off. Then he broke into the harmonica and fast section and the second half wasn't good.

Ramiele (I Should Have Known Better): SHE sounded good, but the band sounded awful - what was up with that arrangement? Even Simon mentioned it, and you usually just don't diss Ricky and the boys. The overall effect hurt her, even though she sang it well.

It wasn't a good week overall, partly because the song selection could have been so much better. Just imagine how Amanda or Chikezie could have brought down the house with the soulful Don't Let Me Down. (Amanda also might have ripped up I'm Down.) Jason's lightweight countenance needs a serious counterweight (which is why Hallelujah worked for people), and Michelle just made him seem more lightweight - why not go to the same album and the tougher-minded Girl? And if Kristy is intent on doing country, the Beatles DID some actual country-flavored stuff; "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party" was actually a hit for Roseanne Cash.

I think Kristy will go home tonight.

Last night was terrible, but since I really had more of my attention on Dancing With The Stars, I didn't mind too much. LOL. Because I wasn't paying all that close attention, I don't really have an opinion about top three. My lovely Brooke didn't do well, but like she said, "it's OK." She'll still be standing after tonight. I'm not a fan of Syeshia, but of everyone last night, I would say she had the biggest improvement of the lot.

A pretty poor night all around. Having the Beatles a second week was not a good idea. Everyone sang the Beatles tune they loved most the first week. This week everyone had to do second choice songs, and it showed.

Who will go home? They ought to send no one home and have a do-over.
