I thought it was Brooke, Ramiele and Kristy.

And Ramiele, though I liked her, was the right choice.

Sorry to hear about Elliott's mom also.

Dabob, you're right - Ramielle, Brooke and Kristy.

I think I'm never gonna get over Chikezie being gone. Now all I really have is Carly.

I think I can give David C another look now that he has cut that dang hair.

<Michael Johns -- excellent. He's got a really great style and fantastic range. He's like Jim Morrison, without all the baggage<

Having seen Morrison, I do like M Johns, but he's not in that league yet....

whether it was the drugs or not, there was a part of Morrison's voice that cut right thru ya...

but if they ever decide to do another movie - I'd take M Johns over Val Kilmer - that's for sure. Although I think M Johns is closer to Michael Hutchins of INXS

I totally agree, vbdad. Morrison died before I was born but I went through a huge Doors phase when I was 17-19 (not the greatest idea, btw. LOL). I thought Michael Johns did a good rendition of "Light My Fire" during Hollywood week, he doesn't remind me of JM at all. Good call with Michael Hutchins reference!

thanks - sadly we are missing both of those performers.

Morrison was almost an other worldy experience- the hype was reality...

a Doors phase...LOL--I can only imagine, but heck at 17-19 I think most of us go thru something like that....

David Cook looked like he wasn't feeling good last night. Anyone else notice that?

Is this Idol Gives Back week? Didn't they give all the contestants a free pass last year, and no one was kicked off? I'm assuming they will do that again.

With regards to the performances last night, I was surprised all the judges agreed that Jason was fantastic. I can understand Paula, but Simon? I hated it. I didn't like Carly either. For an inspirational song, she came across as bothered and angry. I actually think that of all the performances, Kristy's was closest to the mark (gasp!)

<Didn't they give all the contestants a free pass last year, and no one was kicked off? I'm assuming they will do that again.>

And I could live with that, since I didn't think (for once) that any of the performances were truly bad. Not that I don't have armchair criticisms...

Michael: An interesting choice for "inspirational week." Basically I bought it, but he did look just a touch "wannabe rock star" as Simon said. His real strength is bluesiness, and he should pick material that highlights that. I think he probably didn't even KNOW he was particularly good at a soulful, bluesy vibe before this show, so he might not. Hope he does.

Syesha: Sang it well, but a no-win choice of song. It's one thing to do a Whitney song and get compared to her instead of other contestants, but to do a song once done BY a fellow contestant, and then not do it quite as well, will get you the comments she got last night. Technically fine, but emotionally not 100%. The judges have rarely given her her props this season, so she's probably in trouble... IF they kick someone off tomorrow. If they don't, she's got next week to redeem herself.

Jason: I'm not crazy about this guy, but I think this was an extremely canny choice on his part. Right song, right arrangement, right laid back vibe for him. He's got the weakest voice of the remaining contestants but could last a while with smart choices.

Kristy: It paled next to Martina McBride's version just the way Syesha's I Will Always Love You paled next to Whitney's. The difference is, the judges aren't country fans, and probably only heard Martina sing that song once, on the show a year or two ago, and have forgotten it. Still, not bad.

David C: A bit lackluster for him. It was one of those "he loves the song so much he doesn't realize it doesn't show off his voice very well" kind of choices.

Carly: Even stranger choice for inspiration week than Michael's. This song walks an edge between an actual inspirational "the show must go on" in a "trooper" sort of way, and an ironic "it's all just a show/pretense" vibe. And to the extent that Carly caught the second vibe, she undermined the first, and thus any claims to "pure" inspirationalism. It OUGHT to be somewhat an angry or at least world-weary song... on another week's show. Because she seemed so angry, (and had some pitch problems) she may be vulnerable.

David A.: Good song choice for him, even if not real well known, because it showed off the purity of his upper register. He obviously has a healthy fan base, and unless he really stumbles badly, he'll be top 3.

Brooke: I agree with Simon. Original, no. Pleasant, yes. That's pretty much how I've felt about Brooke from the beginning.
