>Imagine that - a father being involved in his minor son's work. How dare he.<

It's one thing for a father to be involved. It's another for the father to be in control over his son's every move, dictating song choices, arrangements, etc. He should be involved with his son, but he should not be in control of the process.

I don't care who wins this time. I'm tired of all three of them. Moving on....

I think David Cook stands the best chance of making the record company any money. So take that for what it's worth. That and $4.00 will buy you a gallon of gas!

I think all three did about equally well last night. No meltdowns like Jason last week, no "wows" either. Yet I think the judges pretty much threw Syesha under the bus because they, like everyone, has become convinced that a David vs. David final is inevitable (and good for ratings?).

Only giving them 90 seconds for each song is a mistake, I think. Too many of the songs had no chance to build and it would be a better test if they did full length 3 or 4 minute songs to see if/how they kept the audience's attention for a full song. That's what they'll have to do in the "real world," after all. Either give them just 2 songs each at this stage, or go to 90 minutes for this week.

I think it's almost certain that Syesha goes home tonight. I find myself not caring nearly as much this season. They probably do have the best 3 as the final 3, yet I found myself thinking as I watched last night "Melinda could sing rings around ANY of them."

<<I think all three did about equally well last night. No meltdowns like Jason last week, no "wows" either.>>

I was semi-wowed by David A's "Longer" and by David C's "The First Ever I Saw Your Face."

<<Yet I think the judges pretty much threw Syesha under the bus because they, like everyone, have become convinced that a David vs. David final is inevitable (and good for ratings?).>>

Yeah, what was up with THAT?! I thought Syesha's first number was fine, "Fever" was weak, and the Penguin song was fair. But it was, as you wrote, as if the judges had jointly decided in advance to be harsh with her no matter how she performed. (And why did Ryan ask her about the chair ahead of time? Making her explain and justify it BEFORE her performance truly ruined what might have been a nice surprise for the audience.)

<<Only giving them 90 seconds for each song is a mistake, I think.>>

Absolutely. My initial criticism of Cook last night was that his second and third songs followed the same formula. But then I realized that the 90-second rule pushed him toward that.

It was frustrating that the judges penalized the singers for that limitation -- which was imposed by the show itself. They wanted "Beginning, middle, and end?" With convincing storytelling? And a different style for each song? While the singers showcase everything they can do? AND take risks? Uh-uh. That's too much to ask when they only allow 90-second performances.

I found it similarly irritating that the judges criticised the singers for the material they performed -- when it was the show's judges and producers who had chosen the material. Bizarre.

<<I think it's almost certain that Syesha goes home tonight. I find myself not caring nearly as much this season.>>

I found myself not caring about the final order as soon as DredBoi was sent packing.

The whole show is predicated on picking THE American Idol. But is there any real consequence to ending up #3 as opposed to #1?

Fantasia's performance last night was absoulutely mind numbingly terrible.

Now onto the David and David finale. I'm in the finale for our pool at work. I have David Cook, I'm guaranteed 20 bucks. If Cook wins then it's 40. So please everyone vote for Cook next week, it will help a 33 year in Milwaukee buy some gas.

Agreed. When a song worked, like Cook's did, I wanted more, but they were already over. Bad format.

>Yet I think the judges pretty much threw Syesha under the bus because they, like everyone, has become convinced that a David vs. David final is inevitable (and good for ratings?).<

I didn't think so. I thought she had the same chances as the others, but didn't come through. She was happier doing the Broadway style thing, which ultimately will serve her career better than being a pop star, IMO.

>I found it similarly irritating that the judges criticised the singers for the material they performed -- when it was the show's judges and producers who had chosen the material. Bizarre.<

I disagree with this. While they were harsh on the song choices, I think they made it clear who was choosing the songs. In the 2nd round, it was the contestants themselves who chose, and IMO they all chose somewhat poorly. But the 3rd round choices by the producers all sucked bigtime!

>Fantasia's performance last night was absoulutely mind numbingly terrible.<

I completely agree with this one. And that artificial red hair color? Not at all attractive. She always came on like a tough guy, and I guess that's the image she still wants to cultivate.

I'm looking forward to the final. And I agree that it should be more full length songs instead of the 90 second limitation. My vote is for Cook all the way!

<I thought she had the same chances as the others, but didn't come through. >

The thing was, I think they all came through at about the same level. None was really strong or really bad. I thought it was pretty much a 3-way tie, yet the judges made it sound like she was far below the other two. It doesn't matter at this point, but I thought it unfair.

I guess it's just what you like, Dabob. I thought that while she did pretty good, and while none of them were totally outstanding, there was still a pretty clear difference between the Davids and Sayesha.
