*sigh*

I still think Little Mermaid was groundbreaking...there are so many other movies I could add. Sure, it wouldn't be the top "ten" anymore, but there are so many more that are deserving. Many movies have a moment that are just breathtaking.

I have no issues with the ten there. The art of animation is just simply stunning. What a gift to the world.

I was very happy to see Pinocchio up so high on the list. The animation in that film is still breathtaking all these years later.

I would have put Iron Giant or Dumbo in Shrek's spot. Dumbo is somewhat underappreciated IMHO.

I think sometimes these lists include certain things to be "hip" rather than on actual merit. Not saying Shrek shouldn't be anywhere on the list, but when you think about the rich field of animated classics, Shrek would be nowhere near the top 10.

Shrek does have heart beneath all the jokes, and there are some really nice moments in it. Disney fans tend to hate the movie a little more than they should -- they take Shrek personally. But that said, I can't see the case for it being considered one of the 10 best animated films ever.

You have to remember that the criteria for the list also takes into account the film's popularity with the public, hence "Shrek's" inclusion and the higher then it should be "Lion King".

I personally think it's ludicrous for AFI to consider animation a genre in the first place. It's a MEDIUM not a GENRE. I mean can they really say that films like Persepolis, Animalympics, Howl's Moving Castle and Fantasia are all the same genre? Give me a break. It supposed it's nice that they threw animation a bone because even though there are very solid animated films they would never get on the list against "real" movies. Sigh. AFI's lists are getting worse and worse all the time.

I think if they redo this list we could see either Ratatouille or Wall-E take Nemo's spot
