jon, I enjoy just about any topic you write about. Most of we Disnerds see Disney through our rose colored glasses and I'm guiltier than most. You're probably one of the saner people on LP and can still be objective. There's a real sense of satire to your posts that many people miss. I sort of feel sorry for them. I was smiling the whole time I read this. I haven't been there yet but when I do I'm going to come back, re-read this and enjoy it even more than I did this time. Thanks for taking the time to post this, it's one of the most enjoyable trip reports that I can remember reading.

Thanks. That is very nice of you to say. I try to be objective, and not instantly hate or love something, but judge it on its own merits. Or try to. Most people get really angry at things I say. I've never really understood it, and it frustrates me and I run out of patience with them.

You should go to WDW. This time of year is best, otherwise, it is very crowded, I understand.

But you will be amazed by the place, really. It is not perfect. But nothing is. But it is a very enjoyable time, absolutely. People who look for perfection are always going to be disappointed.

I had a great time. So did the rest of us. I personally am already looking forward to our next trip in a few years. I'm looking at the Platinum Package, simply because it is ridiculously expensive, and I have no sense about money whatsoever. I expect this idea to be vetoed rather quickly.

Just to add to jonvns tips Shiva. WDW is a place of extremes. I am so very disappointed with the MK and the transport in the resort, but Epcot and DAK are amazing. The Studios is fun if you have not been, as the different attractions are worth a gander.

The waterparks, Disneyquest, Cirque and elements of Pleasure Island are different to anything at DL.

There is much to enjoy, and if you go for a short trip, you will have a great time.

I just get grumpy as I find the MK is a much lesser experience than DL or DLP. Also the quality of WDW has really been slipping for the last 10 years.

But if you focus on everything that is new to you, and go for about a week, be sure to rent your own car or stay on a monorail resort, you will have a fantastic time.

And as far as dining, the counter services at Epcot and DAK do definately exceed the quality on offer at DL. Add in some great table service restaurants (but book 6 months in advance) and you will have a blast.

I'd say the Epcot resorts are fine too, transport wise. You can walk right Epcot, boat to MGM, and from Epcot swing over to the Magic Kingdom pretty easily.

It's too bad you didn't stay in one of the more central locales, Dave...especially for such a long trip, I think it would have helped your frustration level quite a bit!

Well we chose AKL (beautiful hotel, animals, some great cast, and food) for some peace. We just didn't expect the transport to be so poor (we thought dedicated transport for a deluxe would be fine, after all we had no probs at Dixie Landings as a moderate years before).

And then the MK was AWEFUL 2 years ago. It really made DLP look like it was well taken care of. That and the POP/Warner/Xmas Parade/kick the gusts out every night for an upcharge party really ticked me off. I always felt the MK was lesser to DL anyway, and not as pretty as DLP. So mix this in, it really has turned me off.

Add that the weather in FLA is so oppressive, even in Dec, and mix in some a lot of red necks. Hmmmmmm, makes me sund like a prejudiced bigot, but I felt soooooo disappointed.

Also having the MIL in tow was trying. A 2 yo and a 4yo no probs. One MIL as well....hmmmmm, challenging.

Thing is, there is much more Disney could do to fix the situ. We loved the hotel, and actually that made the pill less bitter to take.

We had a fantastic time at the Studios (talk about cast magic - WOW!). And Epcot and DAK are always awesome!.

But overall value for time and money, I prefer the DL/DLP experience. We'll see how I feel when I get back from California.

We had zero problems with transportation. We had no car, and got everywhere fine.

The price is the main reason we have never stayed at a Deluxe or eaten at more than 3 sit down dinners on a trip $700 a day is insane!! That;s why we usually start our trip off property (or this time trying PC) and finish at a moderate. Even at WDW it's hard for me to justify that much money!

We're going in a couple of months. First time back for me since 1972! We don't have a ton of time, so we plan to focus mainly on Epcot and DAK, take in everything at a leisurely pace -- the "less is more" approach.

Thanks for the trip report, jonvn! It'll be fun to compare notes after I've been.

I think you'll be amazed at how big it is now. WDW, I mean.

Don't sell MK short. It's very nice, too. The Hollywood Studios is OK. It's pretty weak, honestly, but not terrible. Just not their best.

>>Fantasmic at this park is actually a better experience than at Disneyland. There is a stadium, beer, and the show is better, too.<<

For such a fabulous trip report, I have to admit the statement above just about put the entire piece's credibility in peril.
