>>I'm glad you like TDR, but in all likelyhood, I will never go there<<

Well jonboy, since I have room for another friend in my life now a days... maybe you'd like to come along with me one of these days? It pays big to be freinds with someone who cleans up puke for a living... Does Business Class appeals to you?

I didn't have any popcorn at wdw. I did eat pretzels. They were fine.

I like the cinnamon ones in Fantasyland by the P-Haus.

"since I have room for another friend in my life now a days... maybe you'd like to come along with me one of these days?"

I would be happy to be your friend, but I have no desire to go to Japan. Or France, for that matter. I've done enough traveling. I find it very stressful.

Not when you have friends in the airlines business it isn't..

>>..I have no desire..<<

Ok, fine, but since it is your choosing not to go to those places, then please, do not pass judgement on me when I make comparisons with them, and this has nothing to do with you personally, but my intention by doing so is to grab someone's attention to the fact that we are overpaying for the services we recieve at WDW, versus the same or better services we recieve at the other Disney resorts. I find it hipocritical of WDW's management to pass up WDW as this all out attack on your senses (which cam be at times I agree) but the proof is they can do much better and match quality with price charged. That's all.

..and I think your trip report at the beginning of this thread is proof of my point of view.

"do not pass judgement on me when I make comparisons with them"

I don't think I do that, but the thing is I just don't really care about TDR. So when you bring it up outside of TDR forums, it's really not that pertinent.

Of course you overpay in WDW for what you get. It's rather a problem, I think.

I paid ten bucks for a balloon. It's really kind of nasty.

I think my trip report said good and bad things. It's not the most perfect place on earth. And it's being dumbed down like everything else disney does, unfortunately, but it's still a great time, and I enjoyed it.

Most people simply are not going to go to Tokyo. It's not something they will do. Either they can't afford it, or have no interest.

I would like a park like TDS here, but that's not likely. Finances and the tastes of the public are a bit different in Japan, and it probably just would not work here, at least monetarily.

I just like to go to these parks and have fun. When things aren't good, I point them out, but they are still basically fun places to go to. WHen they stop, I stop going. I don't own the place, and I owe Disney nothing, as it owes me nothing.

That is how it is in the United States now. There is no loyalty to anyone or anything other than the dollar.

Foiled again! Here I thought that jonvn's initial post would attract a couple of comments and begin sinking to the bottom of the section, as way too many Trip Reports do. And then a couple of weeks later I would come in and post my own comments, thereby single-handedly and heroically sending the topic back to the top.

Damn you all.

jon, THANK YOU for your report! I really enjoyed reading it. I didn't agree with all of it. And since it's been 10,000 years since I've been to WDW, there were also many comments I'm not in a position to agree or disagree with. Still, I appreciate the facts you shared, enjoy your perceptive and critical point of view, and love the sense of humor.

Most of all, I think, I like the honesty of your report. And the logic that allows this: "This part sucked, this was over-rated, this was okay, this was good, this was overpriced, this was really good, this was..." to equal this conclusion: "Overall, this place is amazingly good!"

I'm happy that you and your family had such an enjoyable time. Thanks for making the effort to share it with us.

Some more specific comments:

<<Apparently, no one smiles in Chicago. The workers there were all surly and gruff. This was both the airport and the airline workers. Just unpleasant. It's not like that in San Francisco.>>

Wow. Interesting. In my experience, we midwesterners really DO deserve our stereotype that we're a friendly lot.

Fly through MSP. You get the impression that if you were to get stranded in the Minneapolis airport, one of the ladies from the gift shop would take you home, feed you, wash your clothes, let you stay over, then get up early to drive you back to your re-scheduled flight.

On the other hand, the employees at Metro treat you like you're inconveniencing them by doing business at their shops. "Detroit: Where The Weak Are Eaten."

I'd blame this all on the size of the city, but you say that SFO employees are nice. Hmmmmmmm. There's a doctoral dissertation just waiting to be written here.

<<We have Disney's Magical Express which works pretty well. But if you do this, you should be aware that your luggage does not get to you until the next day.>>

What?! You pay extra for a luggage-handling service that services you by making you wait a day for your luggage?! Do they tell you this up front?

<<The lobby is amazing. The hotel is OK. It's a three star hotel dolled up to be something more than it really is. Our room is small, there is no room service after midnight, and the restaurants are weak.>>

Very Disappointing.

<<But everything looks much more plastic [at the MK] in Florida.>>

Well, that's IT, isn't it?! Thank you for helping me put my finger on it!

DL is organic, real. WDW's MK, by contrast, seems a bit manufactured. More plastic-y, yes.

<<Tomorrowland has been turned into pure unadulterated garbage. For those people who don't understand why I and others complain about the excessive use of cartoons in attractions...>>

SO sad. I know that TL is a difficult theme to keep fresh. But cartoons ain't it.

<<But Space Mountain is a far better experience there than in Disneyland.>>

Really? I thought DL's SM2.0 leaves WDW's SM in its vapor trail.

<<This park needs a major makeover, but I think what happened to this park is what is going to be happening to DCA with its upcoming changes. Schizophrenialand.>>

UGH. Let's hope that doesn't happen. Let's hope that Disney will step back, realize the importance of cohesive theming, and make it happen.

<<It really is a great fireworks show, but god, they kept gibbering through the whole thing about dreams magic wishes blah blah blah. SHUT UP ALREADY AND SHOW THE FIREWORKS. God, they can't stop with this magic junk. It's awful. Every sentence uttered by Disney has one of the following words in it: Magic, Fantasy, Wishes, Princess, DVC.

Someone needs to buy these hacks a thesaurus already. What is wrong with simply saying "Walt Disney World is proud to present our evening fireworks show, Wishes?" Play some music, show some fireworks, and wow the crowd. What is wrong with simply having FUN at their parks? What is wrong with simply being ENERTAINMENT? They keep up with this wishes and dreams stuff.>>

EXXXXXX-ACTLY!

1) Stop homogenizing the content of all parades and shows with the overuse of the same tired themes already.

2) Stop relying upon TELLING us how Magical a parade is and how much we'll Remember it because it makes our Wishes and Dreams come true and... use some actual substance to wow us into feeling some magic we'll remember.

Look, I'm a believer. But at some point, the hype becomes more irritating than fun.

<<"Disney's best kept secret?" Not if you actually go to one of their parks, it is not. The omnipresence of these timeshare rip-off booths was offensive.>>

Absolutely. An intrusive presence that is anti-Magical.
