People who use to love Disney but now feel they have lost their way

I have put this on Facebook for those that are on there:

Growing up I was obessed by Disney, the attention to detail, the innovation, the no expense spared approach, the artistry, the magic, the entertainment and the educational ability.

always thinking about and visting the parks, I must have spent 300+ days in the orginal Disneyland, 8 weeks in WDW and 49 vacations at DLP. I am currently saving for a mega trip to HKDL and TDL. But now I am rethinking life.

Disney has had it's ups and downs, but lately it seems down, down, down. Toons and thrills seem to be the only thing the parks can do anymore - look at additions to all the resorts over the last 10 years and the plans for DCA over the coming years. Rubberheads replace themed entertainment. The menus of WDW are dumbed down thanks to the dining plan. And the maintenance of DLP and the MK are really poor.

Occassionally elements like the new lights in the floral Mickey brings hope. But for now it's one step forwards, three steps back. And I am tired of it. But so many fan sites treat me like I am alone.

The hotels and restaurants do not offer the quality experience of their competitors, and the family friendly standards the park started has diminished. And if it's not pirates, princess, pins or plush - the shops don't sell it.

Maybe I am getting old, but I sure miss the good old days. Anyone else?

If you feel the same way, it would be wonderful of you to sign up and be counted.

ORDDU: A witch can never have to many French kisses, now can she? That's why I'm here, davewasbaloo, duckling--ready to cheer you up with one of the best positive diversions I can think of. Just one pucker from me and I'll make you forget all about what it's like to lose your Disney dreams. After all, isn't that what made Snow White and Princess Aurora the happy women they are today?

ORWEN: Maybe dave just woke up too soon--before the Disney dream had a chance to fully develop.

ORGOCH: More 'n likely he had hisself a nightmare 'bout Jay Rascal. I know that'd be 'nuff ta put ME in the dumps!

ORDDU: In any case, dear, it's nice to see you're nothing at all like a Defender of Mediocrity. Keep the faith and I'm sure you'll see your ultimate dreams come true...In the meantime, please pucker up and allow me to have mine...hmmmm????

I've only been to Anaheim and Florida, but there is one thing I can put my two cents in about:

Merchandise.

Since when did the Disney Corporation think that we the consumers want souvenirs that have all the parks listed on them? What ever happened to Disneyland, Ca exclusive merchandise? I think a T-shirt is just about the only thing that seems to be park exclusive.

Boy, your right about that HAUNTS.

I just wanted everyone to know that the other day I was working on someone's pc and for their desktop they had a photo of the Castle at DLP. What a cool castle. I didn't realize there was all that rockwork.

Oh ya, and a 22ft AA behind that Rockwork. Mix in real hand made stained glass windows and tapestries telling the stories of Sleepy Beauty, it is an amazing Castle. And that level of plussing is virtually everywhere in the park.

DL has the most magic, best cast and maintenance. But the imagineers really knocked themselves out when they build DLP.

I have some video sent to me by a kind LPer from the upper East part of the US who went to GREAT length to film a lot of the themed areas of DLP. This person has an eye for this kind of thing and his videos were WONDERFUL. They showed this whole area under the castle that included those hedges and the stone work that goes down to the lower level. I was AMAZED at the detail there.
