With both Keira and Orlando saying they wouldn't be interested straight away I say go for a prequel while the rest of the cast are (just about) young enough to be believable.

Explore more of how Jack and Hector interacted on the Pearl, how they became Pirate Lords, Gibbs' back story, more Davy Jones, more Tia Dalma.

Will and Elizabeth may be a story yet to tell, but it doesn't have to be now. By setting the movie in the past, the film-makers would be giving the actors a way to "get out" without shunning the fans!!!

Just make a movie with Jack, Jack and Barbossa. (yes, we named the monkey, Jack).

And Norrington.

I'd be a happy gal.

Well, that article cited Jim Hill, so it must be true!

Personally, I wouldn't really mind seeing a prequel. If they did that, I would say that Will and Elizabeth could be pretty much eliminated, since their story is told at the beginning of the first film, during the flashback dream. I would love to know more about Gibbs, Annamaria, Tia Dalma, and possibly Davy Jones (although I've had enough of the tenticles for a while). Throw in a little Norrington and Governor Swan, and it could make for an interesting set of stories. The only problem is that many of them don't have stories that connect with one another until the parts that we've already seen, which could make for a very disjointed and/or boring few hours.

I don't know where they could fit it in, but there were a ton of East India Trading Company folks in 2 and 3 that I had no idea who they were or why we cared about them. I know that Beckett was important, but didn't know what he did or why I should care, and the guy dressed in black seemed to have absolutely no explination at all, and didn't really do much. I don't know if those are characters that would be interesting to know more about (Beckett at least has potential), but there's a thought for some more stuff to mix in there.

If I'm getting my Pirate folklore correct, Jack Sparrow was a privateer for the East India Trading Co, but refused to ship human cargo (he's a good man!). This is when Beckett branded Jack a pirate and he was banished/escaped.

They do have quite a bit of history together.

I'd love to hear more about Gibbs and Norrington and Gov. Swann could feature in exploring his story arc.

I think I might prefer to see a prequel to a sequel when you think about the possibilities!!!

At the beginning of the first movie, Gibbs is seen as a sailor under Norrington's command who seemed deathly afraid of pirates. Then, 10 years later, he is a pirate friend of Jack's. What happened to him, and what made him turn pirate?

It would also be interesting to see how Jack and Barbossa met, as well as how the mutiny happened. It would also be great to see Jack and Bootstrap as shipmates.

I'm all for a prequel. I would dearly love to see more of Gibbs (he's probably my second favorite character, after Captain Jack, of course), and I'd love to see how the Barbossa mutiny happened.

I have to say that I don't really care for the idea of a prequel. I like the throwaway things that we don't know the backstory of. Like Annamaria: "You stole my boat!" That always cracked me up precisely because we didn't know why or when or how he did it. Not knowing the characters' backstories made them seem more real. I know my friends and coworkers are always talking about things that happened in their life before I knew them--that's what keeps them interesting.

I like the mystery is what I'm saying.

Now, a sequel starring Jack and Barbossa? I'll be the first one in line.

Oh, and about Will and Elizabeth: I liked them, but I was kind of sick of them by the end of the third movie. I'm glad they got to finish out the trilogy, but I wouldn't miss them if they didn't come back.

I guess the only potential problem with dropping Will and Elizabeth is that it might become too much action. What was great about the movies (especially the first one) is that there was something for every body. There was action, adventure, romance, comedy, and it was just generally fun. Taking them out removes the romance and a little of the adventure (they were the ones that always seemed out of place running through the jungle, which made them very relatable, IMO), which might throw off the balance. Then again, they would probably be able to work around it and have a different tone for the film, which would also work for me.

The motion sickness factor is the main reason why I don't want to see this (although the film itself doesn't interest me much either). Although I've never got sick on rides, cars, planes etc, I've never been able to handle the hand-held camera thing. You're definitely not alone!
