Topic: Do the DVC reps us "hard" sales tactics?

No, they do not. One "not interested" will end the discussion.

You have to expect that if you have enough interest to request the DVC video it is logical for them to assume you are a potential customer and will more than likely call you. But the minute you tell them you are not interested that is the end of it.

I have never seen a sell as SOFT as DVC. When we bought DVC they gave us a tour of the property. Then we meet in the sales guy's office where he explained the way the points system works and the financing available. He willingly answered any and all questions and applied absolutely NO pressure to close the deal. If you've been to any other timeshare presentations (or bought an automobile for that matter) you know how unusual that is.

At the end we told our salesman that we never purchased anything that expensive without thinking it over and that we didn't want the stress of decision-making to interfere with our vacation. We told him we would get back to him after we got back home. He did not object at all, and even told us that the special offer available to people who purchase while vacationing at WDW would still be available to us for 30 days after we got home. He said that the entire transaction could be easily completed by mail.

A couple weeks after going home we decided we wanted to do it. We called DVC and asked them to send the stuff. The transaction was very easy to handle via mail. Even though real-estate and loan transactions require a lot of paperwork, DVC had simplified the process to the point of being idiot-proof. We were very happy then. We are very happy now 9 years later. In fact we are so satisfied with DVC we bought additional points last January.

I request the WDW dvd, and don't get a reservations clerk to call me.

Combined with the omnipresent booths in WDW, it's a pretty strong attempt to get people to buy these.

BTW, where the heck is my post on the subject? Is it gone, or am I just not seeing it?

It is gone. But I felt it deserved a reply so I did. By the way... I had nothing to do with it being gone.

Oh...OK. I thought it would get moved here.

I'll recap.

Last week or so, I filled out the form to get the FREE DVC dvd available at the Disney website.

I've gotten the vacation planning video a few times before. They change every year, so it's fun to get.

This morning I get a call from the DVC.

"Hi! Were you interested in the DVC?"

"Um, well, I kind of...."

"OK! Do you know anyone in DVC? "

"Yes, well, um, but not really. "

I felt like I was being asked to inform on people. But it went on...

"OK! Well, then we'll get that DVD out to you, and Melinda will be giving you a call!"

"OK."

Can't I just get the DVD in peace? I just wanted to see the stupid DVD. Now they have me for life. I hope I won't have to move to South America to escape their evil clutches.

Oh, and the pressure immediately started, too. She said something about "If I act by February 18..."

Or something. I don't know for sure. I was like talking to Charo on the phone....

It was not pressure -- if you mention another DVC member referred you,and you purchase - there is a reward system in place for that member. It establishes that up front

Maybe if the person speaking to me on the phone actually spoke english, I would have understood that.
