Ooops yep. Slip of the keyboard.

You can pay $30,000 up front, or we are paying monthly for 5 years.

Then it's ours. We lease it for 75 years then (some units you can own, but not in France - since we are more likely to go to France, we joined there).

Then pay maintenance - currently $1000 per year. But it really is a bargain for what we get.

uh...ok. how much interest are you paying on that $30,000?

It's how much per month for 60 months?

Because you have told me right now that you are already into them for $105,000.

So, if you have interest on that $30k, that adds to how much you are paying them.

Interest is running at 6%. But I have run up a business case spreadsheet and we have already received $15,000 worth of vacations in year 1 (thanks to their introductory gift and some great exchange deals).

Add to the fact, that if I want to exchange for Marriott points, they do package deals that include 1st class flights. e.g. for a $5000 value vacation, $20,000 worth of flights and accommodation can be received.

The vacation club is not the cheapest way to do things, but it is the cheapest way to do luxury.

When I ran the numbers, in the past we have run up $30-40K worth of accommodations on vacation over the last 9 years, and they had all been normal hotel rooms in nice hotels. This gives us large suites. And once you own, you can buy additional "getaways".

My BIL is getting married next year, so for his wedding present, we are giving them their honeymoon. For a $600 outlay, for the resort they want to go to, we will be giving them a gift worth $5000!

And I have 3 other brothers.

Also, the accommodation is large enough for us to share with my MIL or my parents. Or as the kids get older, they could take one friend each.

So it works for us.

I know we could probably be up if we booked cheap deals and stashed cash on line, but this way, we know we are always going to have amazing vacations - Stanford Court, Monterey Marriott and Newport Beach were all done on points in our recent trip. Or go back and see our Mallorca and DLP shots from last year. Fabulous!

Different strokes. I don't drink much and I don't smoke. My parents smoke (stupid, I know), but I spend less on my membership than they do on cigarettes each year.

And when we get there, we are treated as kings, free gifts, free champagne breakfast reception (in the European ones, in the US, it's just a normal breakfast).

No regrets from us. But we do recognise it is not for everyone. It makes more sense to us than DVC as DVC is essentially buying normal hotel rooms up front. But DVC is a little more flexible than MVCI. It's whatever works for people.

So, in addition to what you are paying them, which I figure to be around $600 a month off the top of my head, which will bring that to $36,000, you STILL have to pay for vacations even after?

It's your money. If you think it's a good deal, then enjoy.

Nope, it means you can swap your timeshare in for points, and the points can go on a deal that equals $5000 in value (no extra cost). It's a package in that it is accommodation, 1st class airfare and moderate car rental combined.

OK, great. If you're happy, I'm happy. It's a wonderful world.

Lol, we can agree to disagree on value. I am very happy, may not be for you. That's fine.
