I'm fairly sure I want to join DVC, but I'm only being offered AKV and SSV for my home resorts. Living in California, I was really hoping to get the Grand Californian. Do you think I should just buy into any home resort, or should I wait for 'til the expansion is done in late 2009?

Personally, and I never thought I would say this, I'd wait, especially if you are going to use the majority of the points as DL stays.

If you would plan to visit Disneyland only during slow times of the year I don't think it would make much difference what your home resort was. If you wanted to visit during the summer or holiday periods I think you would want the early booking window that comes with your home resort. In that case I would wait until you could by at the Grand Californian.
