Perhaps because between the time they built the Paris version, and the time now when they are building the Asian version, they lost comprehension of what the ride actually is about.

After seeing that video, I still think they should leave the characters out. It basically looks like some of the Small World dolls decided not to dress in the traditional clothes of their own countries, but have instead decided to dress-up as Disney characters. What exactly does this add to the ride other than another means of marketing Disney character crap? Oh that's right - NOTHING.

Or perhaps, duh, because ther eis much, much more to Asia than Hong Kong!

Someone at my workplace today actually asked me where Minnesota is, where Europe is, and what is in Europe. Huh? This is an employee of the largest court system on earth, and doesn't know where Europe is?

disneyland paris small world features a french scene. after seeing the you tube promo, i decided that if this is what we get it wont be so terrible. all the dolls do appear to be in the same style and it doesn't appear to be deemphasizing the original type dolls.
i guess we will all have to wait and see. that is all we can do.
i think the whole debate has become a theater of the absurd. whether the changes are good or not the debate should be reasoned. people are acting like disney is desecrating grave sites. over at some of the other boards people are throwing around statements like "disney is destroying a work of art" disney and tony baxter hate mary blair and all she stands for. disney should be ashamed. disney is descrating this attraction. one poster even had the gall to make a comparison that the powers at be of disney are like slave holders.
i mean come on people!!! i am not sure whether the changes are good or not, but in the grand scheme of things, is this really something that should be tearing up apart? i understand the blair family has a connection to the ride, but it is an attraction. it is very beautiful and meaningful, but is still just a ride. IF the blair family or others want to keep the ride pure and unchanged, then perhaps they should petetion disney to remove the ride and give it to the blair family so they can put it in a museum dedicated to her work.
Why didn't the blairs protest when during the mid 90s the ride was falling apart? Why don't they protest the holiday version when the whole rain forest room is covered by black drapes?
i just over it. there are worse things to worry about. plus this all rumor. Mr lutz is treated like a prophet these days. he makes a statement and everyone listens to him like his word is gospel. newspapers contact him, people rack up hundreds of posts about what he says(i admit i am just as guilty, in this aspect). yeah he has had some correct info, but he is also had some bad info. He stated after the columbia incident that the columbia was most likely a goner. yet some 10 years later the columbia is still sailing. He stated that the columbia and twain would be become food stands. neither proved true. He once stated that toontown would be getting a merry go round. it didn't happen. i am not bashing him, his writing are intriquing, but it is probabaly like the tabloids. there are kernals of truth, and kernals of falsehood.
disneyland will always make changes that some people like and some changes people dislike. a poster on here that i respect johnvn doesn't like big thunder mountain. it isn't a popular opinion. the majority people like big thunder.
every ride at disneyland has admirers and detractors. there is one ride that everyone agrees on.
Walt only saw the park for 10 years. the park has has to make descions in the last 40 years with out his stamp. unfortunaley they can't constantly run the park the way he did or only use concepts that he approved. the world has changed alot in the time since he has been gone.
walt loved the whole west concept. had he lived though he would have to change much frontierland. the stereotypes of indians just would have played as well as it did then.
sorry for the long rant. it is just frustrating. we are disney fans in our own ways. if we weren't we would be posting. yet sometimes we tear eachother part and act like our opinions are the right ones and anyone who doesn't agree hates disney. we sometimes act like the decisions disney makes are life and death type situations. let take the motto of small world and realize that
"there is so much that we share, it is time we are aware, it is a small world"!
and you know they can add hundreds of disney characters, as long as we have the song in some form, it will be a meaningful attraction to me.
the end!!

Paragraphs. They help. It's impossible to read things like post 124.

You need to break things up and organize your ideas into sections.

i know i rambled, i am horrible at editing. sometimes when i write i just write as it flows from my mind. that is why when i was college i always had my mom proofread my papers!! lol
in a nutshell. i am not sure of the changes, but i am not going to worry about them til i see them. more important things to worry and debate about.

Agreed. Capital letters, punctuation and paragraphs, or forget it.

Re: The **content** of post 24.

Do you know, dresswhites, of the high esteem Mary Blair's work is accorded by art aficionados (not Disney geeks)?

Yeah. They are definitely destroying a work of art. The other iasw's are the equivalent of art prints.

And now, having just watched the video, I can say that it's EXACTLY what I pictured, and what I feared. Those THINGS should not be within 10 miles of iasw.

One of the things Blair and her team put a great deal of thought into was where the rider would be looking, IE how the rider's attention would be drawn to the different scenes in the ride by means of placement, lighting, background design, the curves in the track, etc. This will FUBAR that real good.

Guests (especially the little ones) will be looking for the Disney characters and ignoring the rest of the ride experience. It must be some MBA pinhead's idea of "repeatability". (Didja see Mulan? Didja see the Eddie Murphy lizard?)

I can't believe there are still Imagineers or Disney execs left at that company who think this is a good idea, for DLHK or anywhere else. Time for another house-cleaning.
