"I just get so sick and tired of the knee-jerk reaction to every little
change "

It's not every little change. It's about them cramming cartoons into everything.

"you are clearly in the minority. "

I'm sorry, but it seems at least on here, I am not. Not only that, unless you have some survey that says that the public wants cartoons stuck on every attraction, no matter how inappropriate, you're not exactly in a position to tell me otherwise.

"Character-based rides are selling merchandise, creating long lines, and generating revenue "

You think this never happened before? Somehow for decades rides didn't have long lines, merchandise did not sell, and they were not able to reinvest? I guess everything they did up until the last few years has just been a wild figment of my imagination. The Disney parks did not exist befor 1998.

I guess that's what it means.

"But is it working? Clearly."

Of course it's not working. They are damaging their parks, and making the experience of visting them less enjoyable. All you have to do is go to WDW and see MK's Tomorrowland. It has been utterly destroyed by this cartoon process.

It's junk, and we spent almost no time there. You want this to be the model for everything they do? Fine. I prefer doing things that actualy have a variety and are not aimed at the 5 year old set only.

And you know what? I am the one who controls the money. And if I don't like it, if they don't want to cater to dads, then dad isn't going to be going to Disney parks anymore, and dad isn't going to be spending his money.

You don't want to see "knee jerk" reactions? Then get them to stop putting cartoons in every little place, and stop putting in out of theme attractions that have nothing to do with their surroundings.

When that happens, you'll stop seeing complaints. Until then, there will be complaints, and their parks will continue to go down the crapper.

"Of course it's not working. They are damaging their parks, and making the experience of visting them less enjoyable."

Your opinion. You can't argue with the crowds these rides are drawing and the associated revenue. Somebody - a whole lot of somebodies - like it.

"I prefer doing things that actualy have a variety and are not aimed at the 5 year old set only."

Variety? What does this mean? I don't consider riding in a submarine with nemo anything like shooting aliens with buzz. And I know plenty of adults who LOVE these two rides and consider them among the park's best.

"...their parks will continue to go down the crapper."

Again, your opinion. I can say with all certainty that the revenue Disney has generated from the parks the past 3 years is about the furthest thing they would consider from "going down the crapper".

I agree, and the crowds that the recent character-based attractions (Pooh, Monsters Inc's, Stitch, Tarzan's Treehouse) really haven't been that big. Sure, they have moderate waits, but with fairly low capacities. If they had the kinds of capacities that iasw, HM, and POTC have, they would be a consistant walk on. Even Buzz, with Iger's way of avoiding a passive experience, is starting to get pretty short lines (less than 15 minutes at all but the busiest moments), and it's only been a couple years. Nemo, with it's dreadful capacity seems to have leveled off around 45 minutes, which is the same as Dumbo on many days. I really wouldn't call any of these astounding successes. If anything, they have all failed to live up to their expectations.

"Your opinion."

No, of course it's not my opinion. Look at the lines for Pooh or Monsters in DCA. They are dead attractions.

"You can't argue with the crowds these rides are drawing and the associated revenue. "

You're right. They DON'T draw them.

"Variety? What does this mean? "

This has been gone over many times. If you can't figure out that everything being a cartoon is not variety, I can't help you.

"I can say with all certainty that the revenue Disney has generated from the parks the past 3 years"

And of course everything that went on before the last three years is utterly meaningless. Right? They were only able to build WDW, TDL, EDL, from that.

They must have been insane. Until they figured out that everything needs to be a cartoon, they weren't doing anything at all.

since first posting, i have considered and reconsidered the whole thing. and i am still so unsure of it all! i mean maybe if they add the characters they will do it subtely enough to not change the over all tone of attraction. i have to believe that the imagineers would be respectful of the design of the attraction.
the enchancements to pirates, jungle, and mansion were done well in my humble opinion. pirates lair didn't turn out as bad as i first thought. (i am kind of glad they got rid of the pirates stunt show, it makes the changes alot easier to swallow.)
on the other hand, small world is probabaly the one attraction i have always vowed to pick up the pitchfork and defend.
i hope they dont' destroy the attraction. it is such a wonderful attraction and the message is so profound and as revelevant today as it was when it first debuted. oh disney don't ruin small world!!!

Disney right now. Creativley, is the lowest its ever been and it's sickening. The imagineers continue to bastardize every attraction at Disneyland by throwing in random characters. IASW isn't about stupid cartoon characters. It never was. It's about world peace, and nations around the world coming together to celebrate. Disney is ruining the attractions whole purpose by throwing in characters that don't even belong. Why do they have to do this. The attraction was perfectly fine the way it was. And yet Disney's "Best" Imagineer's feel it will be an enhancement. How? Why? Why does it have to be enhanced with Disney Characters? There SOO MUCH they could have done right, yet they continue to do wrong!

**Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as it doesn't offend the purists or those who feel nothing should ever change in the parks....**

I don't really see it as "growth", this recent character infestation, but rather as a sort of distortion of the original idea.

And they're even BUILDING things that way these days, Hong Kong's Tomorrowland is TOTALLY just "cartoonland" and virtually indistinguishable for nearby Fantasyland in look and feel.

Here's the thing though, I don't really buy into the idea that these cartoons are so very "popular". I think the management right now just can't think of anything better to do. They seem to think this is some kind of synergy, but I don't see it that way at all.

Interestingly, on my recent trip to DisneyWorld the character infestation was very noticeable, and yet the most popular new stuff didn't have any characters at all! Notably, Expedition Everest, Soarin, and Mission:Space.

On the other hand, while Nemo did kind of annoy the "purist" in me (and I feel that Epcot's future world has really lost its' way anyway), it was absolutely my daughter's favorite attraction in the whole resort! So, kiddieland prevails I guess.

If she weren't so enthralled with the Nemo cartoons though, maybe she'd have paid attention to the marine life. I dunno.

She enjoyed the New England aquarium very much as well, without the cartoon distractions.
