^Well jonvn, what can I say except you and I see this very, very differently.

I have really enjoyed the attractions as of late (Buzz, Monsters, Nemo) and think they are great additions to the parks. I see more of these types of rides coming up in the future (Mermaid, Cars). I think it's pretty clear the company has chosen to move in this direction. And I stand by my point that they wouldn't be doing it if it wasn't generating revenue.

And I don't see adding a few characters to Small World - especially when we really don't know exactly what form this will take - as being a bad thing. I think it breathes life back into an attraction that has needed it for some time. As someone else said, it will give me a reason to go on the ride again - not just for my kids.

Well, you can feel that way. I don't think most people are going to want to go on the same ride over and over and over again with slightly different window dressing.

Oh, and as far as revenue generating, I don't think it is.

Monsters, Pooh, and even Nemo are not driving anything.

What has? Soaring in DCA. That was so popular that it was cloned in WDW, where THAT has breathed new life into the Land Pavilion. TOT, that is popular.

Everest, that is popular. People go to DAK now to ride everest. People do not go to Disneyland to ride pooh. They do go to ride Small World.

The reason they are doing this is not revenue. The reason they are doing this is because it is cheaper and easier, and the people making these decisions are severly lacking in talent.

This is very bad for disney, on several levels and will be felt for many years.

ORDDU: When my sisters and I first heard that Hong Kong Disneyland was planning to add Disney characters into their version of IT'S A SMALL WORLD, we merely mused to each other, "How interesting!" But it didn't bother us in the least.

ORWEN: Maybe it's because we're characters, ourselves, and enjoy promoting all our many 'family members' who are also 'toons'.

ORDDU: Having read all the pro and con arguments about this entire matter, it reminds us of the time Epcot decided to allow Disney characters to participate in meetings and greetings around World Showcase. In the beginning, there were some who complained about such an idea.

ORWEN: But, over time, it seems that guests actually EXPECT to find the characters around World Showcase and, if they can't find them, they're very disappointed.

ORDDU: One case in point involves a recent visit where we witnessed an entire family of guests who were upset when they couldn't find Marie--from The Aristocats--in France. They cast member had to explain that it was simply Marie's day off and that she would be back again.

ORWEN: Personally, I think it's kind of neat that you can find the many different Disney characters within the countries they originally came from. I mean, like finding Snow White in Germany, Pinocchio in Italy, Mulan in China, Princess Aurora, Belle and Beast in France, etc. It's a way of educating your little ones about what Nationality the various characters are.

ORDDU: So, we're not upset over what Disneyland is about to do with this SMALL WORLD update. However, if they were to start installing Disney characters in the Haunted Mansion or Pirates of the Caribbean, we'd most surely protest.

for me i don't mind the additions to pirates or TSI, because both of these additions are based on a live action film. the whole concepts of pirates became very popular. i think disney would have been silly to not adknowledge this popularity. when walt was alive he added the keelboats, because davy crockett was so popular.
i don't have a problem with winnie the pooh, because in the grand scheme it is a minor attraction akin to the fantasyland dark rides, tiki, main street vehicles, and storybookland. i wish they would ehance parts of it, but in the end it is just a little 3 minute enjoyable diversion.
small world on the other hand, is a major land mark attraction. for me i see alot of hate in the world.hate towards muslims, hate towards gays and lesbians, and hispanic immigrants. there is still many with prejudices against blacks and those of the jewish faith.
i am just worried with disney characters the message will be diluted. but it is such an important messages.
Pirates is a brilliant attraction because it so theatrical. adding jack sparrow doesn't lessen the grand scope of the attraction. in some ways it makes even more grand. but pirates is different from small world. pirates is grand, small world is very profound. they can all the characters they want to pirates and it will still be grand. but if you add characters that really have nothing to do with it, small world might be less profound.
like i said i am very conflicted about this one.

ORWEN: What's the message you're supposed to get from IT'S A SMALL WORLD?

ORGOCH: That it's a small world.

ORWEN: Oh!

ORGOCH: Also, that yer one a the biggest reasons the world's gotten so small. Yer gittin' bigger by the day an' there ain't 'nuff room left fer none a the rest of us. Ever think 'bout losin' the Krispy Kremes an' goin' on a diet?!

(Sounds of smackings and whackings followed by moanings and groanings.)
