Both, the Aussie government and Disney have acknowledged that negotians to bring a Disney destination to a piece of oceanfront property near the Anzac bridge have broken down and the project is off.

It does not surprise me.
We just don't have the population to make this profitable. :(

My guess is it was going to be one of the new Disney Family Resort hotels, and not a theme park. I don't think it would have been all that hard to fill an 800 room resort, but my guess is the Aussie gov't wasn't all that interested in kissing butt for a new hotel.

The Sydney Morning herald had a piece regarding it today:

I really wish we could get SOMETHING Disney here :( A theme park would be awesome, but I don't think it's going to happen.

Maybe they were considering bringing the Disney Cruise ships into Sydney Harbour and have a Disney themed island in White bay?

How cool would that be!

Looks like it's not going to happen now anyway.

Typical Aussie government.

The words I really want to say would be removed by the Admininstrator - but you know what I mean.

I guess I am glad in a way. As Australia doesn't know how to run a class themepark. We tend to build stuff, let it rot until it falls apart, don't do any maintenance, let teenagers and bad management run the place and then close it saying it wasn't profitable anymore.

Just take a look at those Queensland themeparks, and what jokes they are. We visited Dreamworld a while back, and were appalled. The entrance area roof was COVERED in cobwebs that had been cleaned for years !!! Now, a broom doesn't cost much and some general cleaning wouldn't go astray. Plus the place was half closed, shops weren't open, the place looked a real mess. Never going back there.

DISNEY BELONGS IN AMERICA.
