school holiday times are annoying to say the least!!

Yep. I remember suggesting when I worked at the Department of Children Schools and Families that we run a pilot scheme of flexible annual leave allowance and year round schools, and see how we got on (given the whole of the UK seems to grind to a halt during the school holidays and the costs of flights sometimes nearly triple).
Needless to say, they looked at me like I was crazy.

I wish they would space them out more, in many parts of the world it is far too hot in August when we get the main holidays to visit.
May was ideal for us to have two weeks away, but from next year theyre having one week off then instead of two and adding the extra week onto the summer holidays in August!! NOOOOO. The week before the holidays in May is the exam week so they cant be off then, but so many I know plan on taking the week after the school holidays off to go abroad!

Wow, I cannot believe this trip was 3 years ago. How much this community has changed in that time, how much my kids have changed, and how much DCA has changed.
I am sorry the boards are not as active as they once were.

I remember that visit so well. We had so much fun with you and your family in San Francisco and Disneyland.
I do miss the closeness of the boards back then as well. Chloe is going to be starting kindergarden in the fall.
We just cannot stop the clock.
We miss you so much. Hope we get to see you again in the not-too-distant future.

Thanks IAMSALLY, we miss you guys too. I can't believe Chloe will be starting school, but I guess that must be right. It is hard to believe Mikey is in the equivelent to 3rd grade and Jessie 1st.
As for returning to the states, we are not sure. Sadly we are now bound by the school calendar and that makes the flights about $4500 now (when we came we paid about $1100), that makes a huge difference.
But I do lament the loss of the community spirit on here. Although maybe it echoes society as a whole. I know I have been a part of the attrition, but it does take two (or more) to tango.
All our love to you and Rod, Ruthie, I will never forget the tears of joy you and so many LPers brought to my face that trip, it was amazing!

Wow, that was 3 years ago? Time goes so fast! My little girls are now in high school & junior high. They grow up way too fast! We're hoping to get to DL over spring break!

wow - shocking isn't it? Mikey is nearly in 4th grade and Jess in 2nd. They hadn't yet started school on that trip.
