The markets are kind of collapsing. You might want to wait, unless you're only investing a small amount.

You might want to consider that disney stock is going nowhere fast, as well. If you want to buy a share just to have it, that's one thing, but it's not a good investment.

Agree with jonvn. Recessions are usually not kind to companies who rely on vacation travelers for a lot of their income. Also, putting all your eggs in one basket is a VERY dumb investment, regardless of what it is.

If I were you, I'd stuff all my money in my mattress. After converting it to Euros.

But seriously - if it's any kind of significant amount, you really need some trustworthy and informed advice. Preferably from somewhere other than a Disney fan board.

I've had 5 shares in Disney for almost two years now, and I think it's made me a whopping $2.00 or so. It's very steady because of people who keep it as a "comfort stock", but there isn't much chance of making much on it. Taking out inflation and stuff, I would be surprised if you could make more than a couple cents a year, unless you bought a TON of shares.

Disney is very susceptible to the overall trends in the macro-economy.

So far, the theme parks are holding up because the dollar is such a bargain for foreign visitors. If not for that event masking the domestic economic downturn, Disney would be showing signs of suffering already. There hasn't been an economic slowdown in the U.S. that didn't result in reduced earnings for Disney's parks. I think this one will be particularly pronounced because the declining housing market has to effect the ability for people to extract money in home equity lines of credit -- the source of a substantial amount of vacation funds for sure.

I also don't think Disney is in the greatest position to be competitive in the online media environment. Selling shows on iTunes is not going to be enough. They need to have an online presence that attracts eyeballs in the same way that YouTube does, and they don't have that yet.

I own shares of Disney, bought at the post 9/11 lows, but I would be very cautious about entering the stock at this point.

Agreed. Ive been watching since Christmas when I got one, and its pretty much stayed the same. If its a big time investment then, I would wait until the stock goes down to the low 20's/high teens. Thats probably where itll end up for a while if this recession gets worse.

Oh, I also think that Disney is attempting to make an online presence, but it just doesnt understand what it is the teen population (myself included) wants.

Actually, Ill go on and spout off my personal opinions about online Disney right now.

DIsney shopping is not inclusive enough. I realize that they just launched a new site with resort amenities, but there main site doesnt sell enough general disney stuff that can be found in the Disney Store and the World of Disney Stores. Its these kinds of things that need to be put online. If all of the World of Disney Store merchandise were made available for purchase online, Disney would see a sharp increase in profits, due to peoples desires to buy Disney items for their younger kids. As far as teens, their really isnt much that can be put available to buy on their behalf, because at my age (15), you either like Disney, or laugh at it.

As far as the Disney Website goes, more Teen/Tween audience stuff needs to be added. If Disney wants to cash in on the teen audience, it needs to come up with shows that are directed at teens, who ARE, in fact, a part of the Disney Family.

Dunno though. Depends really on what Disney wants to do.

I wouldn't count on it getting that low.
