well to be fair if the original parade was kept there would not be any diversity. One can not predict that something like this would happen.
for quite a while there was no problems with the Buzz float in Tokyo yet sadly a large piece of that float broke off while performing. |

This is a photo of one of the Bug's Life pendulums at its full range. I assume this is what broke.
Did just the end break off? Or the whole thing? If it was the end (which seems more likely), then it will be an easy inspection and fix. If the whole thing came off, there are major problems to be solved.
There was also a mention of broken glass. Glass??? Perhaps there was broken fiberglas? That would seem reasonable to assume.
Regardless, I am certainly glad to know that no one was hurt, either among the performers or guests. And I am confident this parade will be back up and running soon. |

| Jim in Merced CA Fri 3/21/2008 6:02p | Remember when parades used to just be entertaining?
And you'd sit and watch the floats, and watch the people dance, and enjoy the music?
Remember when performers didn't have to have a hyper-active spaz attack in order to be entertaining?
And the parade performers didn't have to throw beach balls at you? Or squirt you with water? Or make you shake a tambourine? Or dress you up in a tu-tu and make you march in the parade?
Remember when the parade wasn't such an important part of the offering at Disney theme parks?
Yeah, that was awesome... |

I saw BPB the first day it opened at DHS and the parade route is very slim for the first show stop. Guests are right next to the floats essentially with only a small path for the dancers to move.
One of the springy-things had an acrobat on it on the float directly in front of me. After the show stop, the acrobat climbed up just before the parade resume movement, and the rod attaching the spring to the float at the top failed. The acrobat swung around off the spring as it suddenly moved, was holding on to his handhold thing, and smacked into the side of the float with a rather sickening thud.
All of this happened within a few feet of guests, and if he hadn't been holding on to his hand support he'd of likely fell into the crowd. He managed to swing himself back onto the spring (he was hanging in the air by his hand) and then get down - and still finished the parade too and the next show stop too.
So, stuff happens, and it likely would have failed if the parade at stayed at DCA too.
I will say it's more excusable for an old float that just traveled across the country to have a relatively minor failure then for a brand new float to have something break so soon.

| retlawfan Fri 3/21/2008 11:50p | I hope they can inspect the floats quickly and determine they are safe to resume performances. I am due in the parks on Sunday and Tuesday, and I was looking forward to seeing the new parade. |
