Oh, and one more thing. Do the standard guest rooms at the TDL Hotel have LCD TVs? Most of the deluxe Disney hotels have them these days, and it would certainly seem like an attempt to cut costs if they didn't install them.

Here are a couple of other things I remembered about last week:

Did they tone down the music to Sindbad? It seems that Compass Of Your Heart is not playing in the queue, load area, or exit area, nor is it in at least one scene of the ride. When the new version first came out, it seems to me that the new song was more omni-present. But this may be me just not remembering things properly.

The public areas inside the Sheraton have been completely remodeled. The lobby area looks much more contemporary then it did before, now with lots of dark woods and so on. The staff uniforms are now more of what you'd expect in a W hotel rather than what was there before. The rooms now have flat-screen televisions. And, they seem to have changed some of their policies, such as no longer escorting you to your room upon check-in. Unfortunately, for those freeloading a stay, they raised the price 20% in terms of number of points required. Overall, I think the improvements are good.

And, there have been more food changes at TDL. My favorite "menchi katsu burger on a Mickey-shaped bun" item is now completely gone, and they have removed Diet Coke from the snack place underneath the astrojets, although thankfully it's still at the Tomorrowland Terrace.

How different is a "W" hotel compared to regular Sheraton's anyway (they are part of the same chain I'm guessing?)?

<<Do the standard guest rooms at the TDL Hotel have LCD TVs?>>

Yes. The TV unit is very cute - themed to a very appropriate character!

<<Lee, you'd probably know more about this...why is HKDL so much more focused on Chinese food in comparison to TDR?

Will Chinese people really NOT eat anything else or something?

Do they have many foreign cuisine restaurants in Hong Kong at all? Are they popular?>>

You know they surveyed that to death prior to park opening and they discovered that the tastes were not very adventurous for fast food. Some of it is also about climate - in hot and humid weather you are supposed to eat broths etc. as it actually helps keep you cool. There is a wealth of that information that was used to get the F&B operations inside the park right - and I think it worked. The most adventurous item was a char sui burger.

<<Also, does Canna bear a slight resemblance to the Crystal Lotus design-wise?>>

Hmmm. I would say no - I think Canna is a little more relaxed in its execution - I find Crystal Lotus to be more formal. However the design touches in Canna are more elaborate from a creative perspective. I literally took a sharp intake of breath when I saw it - the entire facility is gorgeous.

<<Does the lobby of the TDL Hotel feature stained glass domes like those in the Grand Floridian and HKDL Hotel? You mentioned before that there is a lot of public space, so I'm assuming there is plenty of seating in the atrium?>>

Yes - but they are fake due to the earthquake codes - however highly effective.

The seating had not been installed when I saw it - there is a cute fountain in the main space. I presume most of the seating will be in the Dreamer's Lounge.

Good insight Lee. Thank you (on the food questions about HKDL I mean).

I still gotta wonder if the Chinese are really so different on the issue compared to the Japanese (I would guess maybe yes, due to Japan's long exposure to Western culture and relative wealth...except that we're talking Hong Kong and they obviously are very Westernized in many ways).

Interesting topic for discussion, in any case!

<<< except that we're talking Hong Kong and they obviously are very Westernized in many ways). >>>

I think that the food choices along with a lot of other things about HKDL were decided based on the project largest single guest demographic, which is visitors from mainland China and not HK locals. I don't think locals would have any problems with Western food, and would probably expect it in a Disney theme park.
