This whole NFFC thing still seems very odd to me. Now we have three LPers that are NFFC members that have come out of the woodwork to post on this thread, but I don't recall seeing them in any other Tokyo thread. I would have thought that as LP members, there would have been at least some posts regarding this event that's apparently been in the planning stages for two years, and serious planning with WDAJ since last fall and people booked on it since January. But instead, the silence has been deafening.

I certainly wouldn't expect that NFFC event planning be centered around the Tokyo section of LP, but I'd be surprised that the people involved in the planning didn't have at least some questions that could have been readily answered by the people here. Or even if not, that someone would say "Hey, we're going to be there on XYZ days, so if anyone's interested in meeting up in the parks, let us know" or even "Hey, NFFC is planning this great trip for TDL's 25th - if anyone's been wanting to see TDR but has been reluctant to do so because the trip seemed daunting, then this trip is for you!" You might even have picked up some new NFFC members as a result.

The fact that a trip of such a large scale has been planned and arranged, with some of the planners and participants being active LP members, yet there not being a peep of it here until it happened to be mentioned in passing by someone else, just seems very odd to me.

<<< "Well once he's finished serving peanuts and soft drinks to pasengers anyway."

Is this really appropriate? >>>

Well, let me say that I don't think this was appropriate. I don't think people's jobs need to be made fun of.

But other than that, the undercurrents to some of these comments are just banter between friends. One thing that might escape some people reading this thread is that many of the participants here are more than just people typing away on a message board. For example, I can count at least 7 people that post or have posted here in the Tokyo section that I've met personally (several of which I've met in multiple continents!) that I'd consider to be friends or at least friendly acquaintances, and we all know each other or at least of each other to one degree or another. And when you have a group of people like that, there's going to be varying degrees of waxing and waning friendships and a history of events, many of which are funny to look back on, and yes even tease about in certain cases. Many of the things mentioned in this thread are obscure enough that they wouldn't even be recognized by someone not involved, and can hardly be considered talking behind their backs in public.

I agree. That NFFC thing just sort of oozed out of the woodwork didn't it?

Guess there are a lot of folks "sort of" here, but then again not really.

Not to mention some secret kinda clubs that apparently throw around lots of cash. :p

Anyway, I've had MY backstage tour, so no need for any repeat of something like THAT (the real question is, why would anyone in their right mind actually CARE about something like that?).

If you want to know more about the NFFC, why don't you just visit their website, www.nffc.org ?

Well, okay. I'm sure we could have figured that out on our own. In any event, it's not really relevant to anything that's been talked about on this thread.

As far as the NFFC goes, I am a long time member, former board member, and current President of the Orange County Chapter. The NFFC has maintained a cordial relationship with LP and many other Disney fan-based groups for years and years.

There has been nothing "secretive" about the NFFC's plans. I doubt it would have occurred to anyone planning the NFFC trip for the last two years to rely on LP, as the NFFC has its own contacts and resources.

Members of the NFFC were already meeting regularly when on line Disney fans were just forming Usenet groups. The World Wide Web wasn't even a gleam in its creators eye when the NFFC was forming chapters across the United States. And, the NFFC was already 15 years old when LP was launched in 1999. No brag, that's just simple history.

For those who are interested in a world wide, virtual community, LP is a great place to gather, and MY choice on the World Wide Web. For those who wish to have real world meetings with fellow fans of everything Disney, by all means check out the NFFC (www.nffc.org) and see if there's a chapter in your area. Maybe you'll be able to join your fellow fans at Tokyo's 30th birthday!

And I think I said as much before. What's odd is that there was not a single peep here until just a couple of days ago: not just on planning, but on "hey, who will be in town?" or "hey, you might want to join NFFC and come on the trip."

Even after this subject has been brought up, there seems to be zero interest expressed by anyone on the upcoming NFFC trip meeting anyone that's not also on the same trip.

It seems to me based on what others have said about previous interactions with NFFC groups is that they act very insular, and the way the NFFC members have been responding to this thread only reinforces this notion: now we have four members chiming in, all defending NFFC in one way or another, but all of them still showing no interest whatever in participating in this section (other than in defending NFFC) or in meeting any LPer that will be at TDR for the 25th that's not also on the NFFC trip. Again, it just seems a bit odd to me.

Here's a weird thing. All those NFFC folks have actually been members of LP for years, but looking over their profiles they've hardly said a word (with the exception of Doug...can't shut that guy up :p).

<<< And if someone wants to pick a time and location for LPers to meet, I'd be glad to make the effort to meet up. >>>

I think we should start planning something. I would like to do teppanyaki dinner at the Brighton, and perhaps the night of the 16th or 17th might be best, considering all of the activity around the 15th.

Also, maybe on the night of the 14th, we can meet for drinks and food after the parks close, say, at the Planet Hollywood bar, until they kick us out?

And, I'm sure that most of us will be in TDL on the 15th, so we might run into each other then.

As I said before, the NFFC doesn't come here to plan. LP members do. The NFFC has their own site and own boards. There was a thread about a lunch meeting for people traveling to Japan over here:

gBoard-T-92425-P-1.asp

I suppose I could express amazement that no one who regularly posts here about Japan responded to this thread that was created last December. But, more sensibly, I realize that there's no reason to expect that they'd be looking around in the NFFC threads. Anymore than NFFC members would be looking around here.

For that matter, the fact that NFFC members were going at all was mentioned by someone else (leemac) in the first place.

>>It seems to me based on what others have said about previous interactions with NFFC groups is that they act very insular, and the way the NFFC members have been responding to this thread only reinforces this notion...<<
The members who are being addressed in this thread are already in Japan, and likely are too busy with their trip. The NFFC members responding here are just trying to be helpful.

>>Here's a weird thing. All those NFFC folks have actually been members of LP for years, but looking over their profiles they've hardly said a word...<<
There's a lot of people on LP who don't post often. Nothing "weird" about it.
