And saying they have the best restaurants in Chiba isn't hard considering the standard! I never understand how people rave about TDR food - I've yet to find anything that was impressive. All passable but nothing exceptional. |

| davewasbaloo Tue 4/8/2008 2:09a | That surprises me. So there is nothing on the Crysal Lotus/Napa Rose/V&A/California Grill(Paris or WDW/Steakhouse55 level of dining?
I thought Magellen's and Oceano were supposed to be excellent. Maybe the DLH will set it straight?
Shame DLP have dumbed down their dining, they ruined the Hotel New York and Sequoia Lodge. |

I don't rate either - passable to good but nothing exceptional. I've yet to meet anyone that raves about a TDR dining experience. The quality is certainly good (and consistent - especially the counter service locations) but nothing on the level of the other locations you mentioned. I know of one poster that I'm sure will interject and disagree with me. :-)
The problem with the Hotel NY has always been space - the Graves design meant that both of the main restaurants were too small for the facility especially once the breakfast policy changed. I stayed there this past weekend and had forgotten that breakfast is in the convention center for most guests. I always like Parkside Diner and Manhattans but they need to make sure that they can turn people over ASAP so fine dining gets left to the smaller Disneyland Hotel. |

Boooo, yep, Parkside and Manhatten's were amongst my favs in the Disney empire. Then they went and ruined them. I understand the motivation, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. HNY is supposed to be a special hotel. Sadly, it is not what it once was. |

As for whether or not TDR has a killer restaurant, I'd say Lee is correct. Nothing on the level of Victoria and Alberts or Napa Rose or anything like that. In fact, the higher end places have generally disappointed me (like the Columbia dining room).
HOWEVER, and this is the big difference in my mind...the overall quality of food from snacks right on up the ladder is superb. Best of any Disney resorts I've ever experienced by far "overall".
I love eating in the Tokyo parks. Eating in Anaheim or Orlando though, a crapshoot at best unless you plan to plunk down big bucks at every meal.
Hong Kong was quite good, but HORRIBLE as far as variety was concerned. Unless you like Chinese food! ;p |

I would say the raves stem from the quality and the variety, most particularly thanks to DisneySea which I feel delivers the best dining options out of ANY Disney theme park.
At least that's how I feel about it. |

| Mr X Tue 4/8/2008 4:43a | I thought Oceano was quite good, as buffets go.
Are there any in other Disney places that are better? To me, buffet is what it is. You can't expect 5 star quality or anything, but Oceano had an interesting selection and I thought everything was well prepared and tasty. |

Better than Epcot? How so? |

| leemac Tue 4/8/2008 5:08a | ^^ You beat me to the punch Dave. I'd definitely put Epcot head and shoulders above TDS. I think I might be inclined to put DLP above it too - the table service locations have always been very good food in my experience (although service can be spotty). I know some people have mentioned bad experiences at the Blue Lagoon but I certainly haven't seen anything (although I have probably eaten there fewer times than any of the others).
The facilities themselves are all pretty spectacular at TDS - but that is just another weird thing about the park - so many options for dining but not as attractions! I think there is something like 34 named dining locations at TDS. |

| davewasbaloo Tue 4/8/2008 5:12a | I agree Lee, that DLP would probably be my no. 2 park for food offerings in my experience. Never had a good experience at Blue Lagoon, but the others are awesome. To me, table service experiences really are a part of the Disney magic equation, in some respects more than the attractions. |
