<<< Further, it was not too long ago when Kevin Yee took a cruise and didn't pack anything but shorts and t-shirts. His poor planning prevented him from eating a morsel of food, other than counter service. >>>

Now that's funny. Although, I don't know that it will affect whether or not I purchase his TDR book. My concern would be that with only a single visit, he's going to have a rather limited perspective. I guess that's just one step removed from the cruise story though. And I do mean "perspective" rather than "experience." There are many ways to visit TDR, and he's going to have the perspective of only the single way he did it during his first and only visit. But I totally see why he wrote the book: as an author that's in a position having to do self-promotion a lot, finding a niche that nobody else has covered yet must have looked like finding gold in the street. We'll have to see how many copies he sells.

"I seriously doubt he'll find a huge market for it, which is the reason no major guides have bothered with such a thing"

Exactly,
there is no real market here in the US.

Nobody, I mean nobody flies their family of 4 from the likes of Columbus, Ohio, Alexandria, Virginia or Santa Fe, NM to Tokyo to see TDR---it just doesn't happen.

People from the US rarely(compared to the Caribbean/Mexico, Europe) vacation in Japan as it is. It is so low on the priority list--- they would rather get up to Canada, bask on a Cancun beach or see Europe's Big Ben, Eiffel Tower and/or Colossium. To speak in generalities here, the only US travelers to TDR are those who just happen to be there for some other reason like business.

I have met countless Disneyland and WDW fans here in California(the mainland state which is closest to Japan) and half of them have never even heard of TDR!. And of those who have quicky say something like, "well isn't it(TDR) just like ours(DlR)?".

Furthermore, even of those so very few here in the US who have a yearning to see TDR they almost always face two serious impediments, time and money.

Also, every tour book on Japan and specifically on Tokyo itself at Border's Books and Barnes & Noble barely mentions TDR at all. I've browsed/read probably 20 of those tour books and TDR is either not mentioned in the slightest or is given just a quick and trivial reference of things to do while in Tokyo.

Commonly those books talk about places and activities like:

Imperial palace
Ueno Zoo
Shibuya 109
Harajuku
gov't observation towers in Shinjuku
Tok. Nat. Museum
Sumida River cruise
Ginza shopping
Roppongi Hills
sumo, pachinko, baths
temples and shrines

but basically nothing on TDR.

Ah, but buying a book and dreaming is relatively cheap! I know I've bought travel books to places that I want to see "someday" yet have no immediate plans or ability to do so.

<<< I've browsed/read probably 20 of those tour books and TDR is either not mentioned in the slightest or is given just a quick and trivial reference of things to do while in Tokyo. >>>

... which is why this book would be necessary for Disney fans that might want to visit TDR.

I think the market is limited to Disney fans that might someday want to visit TDR. I doubt that people that are otherwise in or visiting Japan would buy this book in addition to whatever other guide book they're using, even if they planned a day trip to visit TDR. And I doubt that the book itself would make someone want to visit TDR if they weren't already pre-disposed to doing so.

So, it probably will have a (very) limited market. Separate from that is how well it does in serving that market.

That sounds like something I'd do (and, for the record, I'd be okay with it too, since I'm more of a shorts and t-shirts kinda guy).

Kevin, thanks for the kind words and for the offer.

Very true. Another large portion of the foreign visitors to TDR are military guys and their families (might be an angle to think about as far as promotion, Kevin).
