I am very sad. My much beloved turtle{Fast Eddie samonella} has passed away last night.
I buried him in the woods behind my house. he was buried with his hackie sack which he liked to rest his chin on. I also put in the photos of other turtles that were taped to the side of his house. He always seemed to like looking at them.
Please do not send flowers.

Umm...hmmm. How to respond in an appropriate manner?

Sorry for your loss?

Does one bury a turtle on it's back or would that lead to an eternal afterlife of frustration?

Really though, the loss of a pet...any pet...can be difficult.

I told Flash, Spike, Jimmy and Lil' Brownie,(Ca desert tortoises) and Tuck & Judy (red eared slider turtles). And they send their condolences. Interestingly, they say the reason flowers are not never sent to turtle funerals is because those are for the buffet at the reception afterward.

I haven't told Penny Eataegg Greeenfeather { my Quarker Parrott } that she has lost her sibling. I am not sure how well she will handle this loss.

you did not allow her to go to the funeral to say her goodbyes and pay her last respects? how sad.

How much is appropriate to give to pay for ones respects now a days?

ohh I like those little chocolate jimmys on my brownines too. But, what kind of wine do you have with your desert tortoises?
You might like a little glass of Robert Mondavi Muscato (spell?)
