Hi,

I am searching for books to read, since it is my turn to moderate.

I do want to read something less serious and something fun.

I am thinking of:

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
The Gallery of Regrettable Food by James Lileks

Or maybe a silly travelogue.

Suggestions?

How about Notes from a Small Island by Bill Bryson?

I've enjoyed the one Bill Bryson book I've read and would happily read another. And oldie, but a really fun one is Crocodile in the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters.

Check out the reviews here:

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert
The Gallery of Regrettable Food by James Lileks

I just read the Amazon summeries of these two, and I pick The Gallery of Regrettable Food, but I would read either.

I'm not much of a "foodie," but I listened to Ruth Reichl's "Garlic and Sapphires" on audio and enjoyed it.

I would recommend "Was" by Geoff Ryman. It's a multilayered story about various people (some fictional, some not, but the book itself is entirely fiction) and how their lives are affected by "The Wizard of Oz" in all its incarnations: book, movie, stage. Heartbreaking but ultimately uplifting.

I must admit, I own most of Lileks works, and they are more like picture books with commentaries.

However, I did have a three-hour discussion once on decade-decorating after reading his book of Interior Desecrators. It was riveting, so I was hoping to go for a food-discussion after knowing what is in Regrettable Food.

But, I like the "Was" book; that looks very interesting.

Any more ideas or should I pick one? Maybe I'll wait until Monday, or do you want the weekend to shop for the book/borrow from the library?
