I know we are traveling to London area next May for a few days prior to our cruise which sails out of England. Once it gets closer maybe we can set up a UK meet or something.

But I digress, Mr. Potato head rocks, I wonder how long before they start selling talking Mr. Potato heads.

I am not a Toy Story fan. Yes it was a very good movie but I have not even seen part two. I am not excited about Midway Mania as it is another film based attraction. Shooting guns in attractions can be fun but is not the be all end all for new attractions, though this seems like it may be a fun attraction, I just wish it wasn't based on Toy Story, or even animated characters. In any case. I think Mr. Potatohead is an awesome animatronic... which brings me to another issue. Maybe it's just because I am and oldster but this kind of animatronic is what I like INSIDE the rides. I think he is good enough to be part of the climax of the ride. He is the payoff. Why are they using these great animatronics in the queues instead of inside? I like a nice atmospheric queue but save the best for the inside part of the attraction.

<< Even the Jack Sparrow AAs are superior to Mr. Potato Head. >>

I have to agree with this.

There some subtleties in the movement of the Jack Sparrow AAs that just makes them seem lifelike.

With Mr. Potato Head, you get these awkward broad gestures that just don't come across as being "alive." The whole ear gimmick seems very mechanical, as well. Can they program some more subtle and lifelike movements for Mr. Potato Head?

Not to put down the Cap. Jack AAs, which are fantastic, but Mr. PH has plenty of sublte movements. Look at his eyes, and eyelids. Look at that mouth! Look at the feet and hat.

A big toy can't have more "subtle" things, there are only so many parts.

"Can they program some more subtle and lifelike movements for Mr. Potato Head?"

But isn't he supposed to be "acting" like Mr. Potato Head, not a lifelike human character?

"See, I just disagree with this. The Wicked Witch of the West in 'Great Movie Ride' is a better AA figure.

Heck, the new Auctioneer in 'Pirates of the Caribbean' is a better AA figure.

Even the Jack Sparrow AAs"

Ya Jim, **thematically** I agree, totally agree that those are far better AA's but if we go by fluidity of animation, sound and total bag of tricks Potato is way ahead of his peers.

<< but if we go by fluidity of animation, sound and total bag of tricks >>

I just don't see Mr. Potato Head as being all that "fluid." There's a lot of broad sweeping gestures and other constant movements, but it doesn't seem all that "fluid" to me. I think they need to tone down some of the excessive movement a bit. It's more of my favorite analogy to the big blockbuster movies of summer -- too much gimmicky explosions and special effects, not enough heart.

Me: "I would have preferred a large Woody instead"

You: "Not touching that line with a 10' foot one."

LOL,
I guess I unintentionally set you up for the slam dunk.

Also, the fluidness of the movements are completely lost during the awkward pauses while the CM decided which recording to use next. He sings fine, but when he's interacting (and especially the ear bit), he just sort of sits there and looks at you for a while before doing anything. Not really like the one in the movie, if you ask me.

And the eyes may be expressive, but I've just never felt that projections in AA's work. You have so much real movement and then you add in a projection and throw the whole thing off. The Buzz AA works a lot better because none of the tones in his face are seen elsewhere on his body, but with the spud, the eyelids don't really match that well. They also don't allow for the bend and squish that they had in the movie to make them lifelike. I would have rather had eyes like Brer Rabbit in Spalsh, with pupils that rotate around a white background. They can be a little creepy, but I think they are less creepy and more effective than the projections. Just think, what happens when the inevitable occurs and a projector breaks? Are they just going to let him sith there with a milky blankness washing across his eyes? That sounds like a great idea!
