Thanks Kar2oonMan. I have not seen Dr. Baxter in many, many, many, many years. That brings back memories. There was one film he did where he talked about all the planets that I liked in particular.

I've never seen or heard of The Red Balloon. I've heard of The Red Shoes but never saw that. There was a short film in grade school I remember seeing called The Boy Who Liked Deer. I remember that even at 8 years old I thought it was terrible.

We saw this in grade school also. Loved it as a kid.

Interestingly, there's a CURRENT movie, also French (but made by a Chinese director), with Juliette Binoche that was inspired by this film, called "The Flight of the Red Balloon."

I don't know Dr. Baxter. I used to really look forward to classroom showings of "The Red Balloon," though--as well as "Donald in MathMagic Land," and of course, all the Goofy filmstrips.

HA--FILMSTRIPS! They couldn't possibly still do these, do you think?

Oh, and another classic from elementary school--Jiminy Cricket's "I'm No Fool" series!

I remember that the Disney films were always so full of tears and splices that you couldn't follow the first couple minutes at all.

The Coronet films, not so much.

Film strips with narration on LP and played on those brown, boxy record players with the speaker (1) built-in:

"Blah, blah, blah, blah, BEEP" - Repeat.

Loved that high-tech clicker for the teacher's use.

Ahhhhhhh... The good old days!

With school district budgets cuts running amuck these days, I wonder how much crud the teachers have to deal with from kids who have MUCH better a/v equipment at home...
