FYI, Disney announced that they are closing their website "Virtual Magic Kingdom" on May 21st.

http://vmk.disney.go.com/vmk/e...tterPage

>>As many of you know, Virtual Magic Kingdom was created and launched back in 2005 as part of the Disneyland 50th Anniversary Celebration. VMK exceeded expectations in terms of performance, and as a result we extended the promotion (that is, VMK, the game) well beyond the 50th Celebration.

Eventually though, all promotions must come to an end, so I'm announcing today that on May 21, 2008, VMK will open our virtual gates for the last time. You read that right: VMK was never intended to last forever – we'll close the game for good at the end of day on May 21st, 2008.

This is not an April Fool's joke.<<

I just posted something similar on Other Disney Destinations site.

There are a lot sad individuals because of this. I, for one, wrote a letter as a stockholder and asked that the site be kept open. Disney get's a lot of milage from this 'free' game.

I dealt with this today at the park, even though I am NOT a CM.... more than a couple of folks came up to me and needed a hug and to cry on my shoulder due to the closure, and I was not an active member on VMK!

This is what kills me about Disney today...They do this huge bit and then bam, it is going to be gone...Their attention span to me seems to be shorter than a six year olds by comparision...I love all of the talk they do about all of this online interaction but yet they don't seem to stick with anything they dream up....So how long will the Pirates game last?

Toontown Online, the paid game they have is over 5 years old...and going strong.

What led to VMK's demise is the fact that it was free. Running an online game is expensive....
