So Al's new update today is claiming that the new Carthay Circle Theater building will NOT be home to a new Walt Disney Story. Instead, it will be home to -- NOTHING. Would anyone care to comment on this?

Oh, and Ariel's Grotto is becoming the "Princess Palace". Excuse me while I go barf up my dinner...

I'll believe it when I see (or don't see) it.

Go to the Princess Breakfast event at the Grotto, see the wonderful reactions from the kids, and then make that comment! :)

I am not thrilled with changing the architecture either, but there is no doubt that there is a market for the Princesses. I posted an overview of the Princess Character Breakfast a few months ago over in Trip Reports, and it is a wonderful event.

On the Walt story, it is nice to see someone in TDA is reigning in WDI. Big ideas are great, but the harsh realities of operations need to be factored in.

I don't really have a problem with the concept of the character meals, but I am getting tired of seeing so many of them. I was annoyed when they first turned Puck's place into Ariel's, but I guess it would be too much to hope for that they could return it to a high-end restaurant and drop the "princess" theme. Disney theme parks are not supposed to just be for kids, but lately, I think Disney is forgetting about the rest of us.

But according to this report, NOTHING will be there. I didn't personally care for the idea of another Walt Disney Story, but they should have SOMETHING in this building.

I was under the impression that the one in DL would go away, and the DCA show would expand upon it.

Huh - In DLR they will have the Beer Garden, Napa Rose, Wine Country Trattoria, Blue Bayou, Club 33, Steakhouse 55, Hook's Pointe, PCH Grill, Yamabuki

The themed character meals are only 4 - Storytellers, Goofys, Ariels, Plaza Inn

I know - it wasn't that I thought it would be a clone of the other, just that I didn't think it would be a very good attraction. It would probably interest the die-hard Disney fans, but I don't think anyone else would really care.

And besides, the new icon of the park should really hold an attraction that is sort of the thesis statement for the park - like Spaceship Earth is at EPCOT. Of course, god only knows what the new theme of the park is supposed to be, but hopefully they'll settle on something.

(Though come to think of it, the new theme seems to be nothing but Disney cartoon characters, so maybe a Disney Story is an appropriate thesis statement.)

Well, I was really talking about more than restaurants.

But anyway, I tend to think of WDW and DL when I'm posting - I visit both quite frequently. And at WDW, I'm still smarting from the change of the Norway restaurant to a princess meal!! This just sounds like more of the same.

I don't have a problem with them changing the style of the building, because by the time the PP renovation is complete I really hope it will look out of place for being so plain (while it currently looks out of place for being well themed...at least before you could see TSMM). They will need to retheme it either way, so I really have no problems there. The basic structure and shape they have now will work very well with a Victorian look (it's kind of Victorian-esque right now), so I think that would work best.

They should follow the same general idea behind the Fantasyland 82 update. Sure, at the heart of it, everything has characters in it, but from the outside it just sort of looks like a slightly stylized European village. There's really not much other than the signs and a couple little details (crocodile weather vane, witch in the window, freezes in Toad garden) that would imply that it's a character location, but it works really well as one of the most believable settings in DL.

They can change the Avalon Cove building. Fine by me, but they need to make it fit in with what appears to be shaping up as a very classy park. Pink lace and tiaras on the roof just isn't going to do that.

Is anyone else worried that Disney doesn't really have a plan? Everytime Al posts a new update it seems as if something is either having its timetable pushed back or being removed entirely. It also seems like their holding off a lot for phase 2 and just putting in place holders: particualrly in the Pier (MM, Maliboomer, Orange Stinger, etc.)and now the Carthay Circle too. Maybe I'm just being crazy but does anyone else feel concerned that this makeover not happen in its entirety?
