>>>Before it was supposed to be a new WD Story (an idea I like, by the way), I thought perhaps the new park centerpiece could be a "Welcome to California Visitors Center" - something to drive home the theme. It could be kind of like a little museum featuring displays, some interactive, on various regions of the state, history, geography, industry, etc. etc. Think of the better displays you see at places like Sea World or a natural history museum, mixed with a Disney flair. The idea being that outside the doors are fun representations of the "hard facts" you've just seen inside. I've also said this would be a good place to put Golden Dreams, in a much smaller theatre, for those who wish to see it.<<<

Agreed. There's any number of things they could put in there.

But I have to say... as diehard Disney as I am... we DON'T need yet another tribute to Walt Disney in the Disneyland Resort. Spruce up the one in Disneyland itself. That's where it belongs and should remain. We don't need any more institutionalized redundancy, especially at DCA.

I was looking at that space.

It's not a bad size, depending on how they place the building, and could definitely incorporate a theater the size of the one currently used for GOLDEN DREAMS, maybe even a tad larger if you offset the thing.

So it seems a shame to me NOT to do something on theme with California, or at least something with an uplifting, tempo-setting and innovative feel. Doesn't have to be a movie. What could it be? I have no idea, but the space is there, and to merely have a facade selling plush, or a restaurant that serves yet more overpriced junkfood, ugh.

This place needs to make a STATEMENT.

<< a new WD Story >>

How long has the Florida DHS exhibit been open? 8 years I think, no?

How much attendance is that space still getting?

While I always like the idea in theme and spirit, the reality has always been to me we DON'T need another WD story, period. I still remember the one they had for WD 100th birthday a few years back in DCA already in the animation studio. The 50th movie on Main Street covers a lot already. I mean, this stuff has been covered ENDLESSLY already, and people are right, it will just be another movie that will dwindle in a year or two like all the rest.

UNLESS its a fully (and creepy lol) AA of Walt Disney ala Lincoln talking about his story, people will lose interest quickly.

Hopefully they will find something that will have a longer time span and (hopefully) approprately themed.

I had originally posted this in the Beer Garden thread but I think it works better here.

"I think we need to give the guys who originally designed this park a trophy. The theme is so restrictive, infrastructure so messed up, that they have truly stumped the highest paid creatives on the planet as to what to put in a central iconic park defining weenie.
I vote DVC sales center."

i think that they should just move all the stuff in the snow white 70th annoversary exhibit in the animation building in to the new theater

I think each of the resorts should dedicate some small (maybe 4000 sf total) facility to a "Disney legacy" attraction. Then develop 6 different concepts that would rotate through the parks on an annual basis (the extra sixth could travel through outside attractions...museums that sort of thing, eventually using that time for rehab).

There are so many possible story threads, and each could be focused, not another shotgun Walt Disney Story. Ideas could include: A Disney Brothers story (focusing on two hardscrabble midwestern boys done good), Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln (original show with historic interpretation), The original WED (focusing on the first twenty years of innovation and the people involved), etc.

The key would be to create a cool story, and a single, sexy marketable experience, all supported with company art, artifacts, etc. Every year, each park would have something new to market to its specific audience, keeping the "Disney Legacy" space fresh and vital.
