Animator Michael J. Ruocco has started compiling little videos showing the, er, recycling program that's been going on at Disney for many years. Guess that's one way to keep the quality up and the budget down ...

Wow, those are great! Fun to see the comparisons.

There's another sequence like that -- a comparison of 'Jungle Book' and 'Sword in the Stone' -- Mowgli is walking down a path, and throws a stick or something.

Same animation in 'Sword' -- but with Wart walking down a patch and throwing a stick.

I knew about Bambi's mom being in practically everything (Bambi's mom is to Disney what John Ratzenberg is to Pixar!), but the other ones were somewhat surprising. Bambi's mom looked so out of place in the Jungle Book (very clean lines and cute flowers stick out even more when she pops up after an hour of the sketchy look), that it was really obvious that's who it was the first time I saw it. I had heard about her in Sword in the Stone, but this was the first chance I had to really check her out. In the other roles, she seems to be minor enough that she's more scenery than an actual character, so I don't think it's too bad.

I believe Fantasia also has a lot of other reused stuff. The leaves in Nutcracker Suite seem to make appearances at other points, as do the splashes of water that Mickey conducts in the dream sequence of Sorcer's Apprentice (heck, that's even copied in Fantasia at the end of Toccata and Fugue in D Minor). The whole chase scene out of Mr Toad really surprised me, but it did always seem a little weird how they were handing Mowgli off like that.

I'm a little surprised that he didn't include the most famous example of this: Snow White dancing with the Dwarves used as Maid Marion in Robin Hood....

Go to the link in post 3, follow the link at the bottom to the Russian page 2, and the link at the bottom of THAT page to page 3. There's a lot more.

Page 3 has several examples of reusing the same drawings in the same movie (often in the same frame) by moving them, reversing them, and/or changing the size.

Nice link, very interesting how Disney has been recycling itself.

Okay I've always noticed these things-guess that just shows how big a nerd I am, but I was always saying wow, this looks just like that, or that reminds me a lot of when etc.... and shoot I was just watching the extra stuff, on I think *don't quote me* either the Jungle Book, or on Robin Hood, and they were saying how the Maid Marian/Snow White one was the first-it was Woolie Reitherman's idea.

Interesting. I did not recall the Jungle/Toad one.

Bambi's mom... aren't they putting her on IASW?

There's a Disney short called "Goliath II" about a teeny tiny elephant. He caused a pachyderm pile-up at one point, and if I'm not mistaken, the same (or quite similar) footage was used in "Jungle Book" when Col. Hathi forgets to say "halt".
