How does the fault being a lot closer to the surface factor in? Just in terms of potential intensity?

Anyway, scary stuff.

It WILL happen someday. We can only, I guess, hope that when it does hit it will cause the minimal damage possible and that the earthquake preparations will be sufficient to minimelize the damage.

What else can you do, really?

Oh GOD.

They had to show the trains.

My personal "biggest nightmare".

Actually whenever I'm on a bullet train that's my biggest fear. High Speed + Quake = kiss your butt goodbye.

Stronger ground motion is more likely when a quake occurs closer to the surface. Aparently some areas it may only be 2.5 miles beneath the city
