Actually, SBSBelle22, it's much longer now as it combined/modified the Tomorrowland and Fantasyland Autopias some years ago. :-) |

Well... it has been several years since I rode it ;) Cool though! |

| wonderingalice Mon 4/14/2008 12:35p | ^^Even after ALL these years, I still love the Autopia. :-)
When you ride it again, you'll see some cool little "nods" to the past and some goofy jokes. And as mentioned, there's a neat little off-road section now.
Fun stuff - especially for young drivers who can hardly wait to drive a real car! :-) |

| SBSBelle22 Mon 4/14/2008 12:42p | Ha ha, I'll have to try and do it next time I go... Ugh, but the line is always sssssssoooooooooooo long! Grr, and I STILL have not been on the Nemo subs!!! That is my mission this time-everytime I go no one wants to suck it up and wait in the line... so it will be just me and my Mommola and we shall wait in line!
*end rant* |

| wahooskipper Mon 4/14/2008 12:48p | I've jumped the tracks at other parks but never at WDW. The key isn't so much the track as it is the guide mechanism under the cards. Some parks don't maintain those well and the "looser" they are the more susceptible to jumping off the track.
I have fond memories of a car ride at Knott's Berry Farm (this is the 70s now) that did not have a middle track but had "bumpers" on either side of the track with side bumpers on the cars. I think there was quite a bit of distance between the two sides which gave some maneuverability to the cars - - exciting for a kid.
Anyone from my age bracket or older who remembers that Knott's attraction? |

| sherrytodd Mon 4/14/2008 12:57p | I remember the Knotts cars but just barely because I was pretty young then. Weren't they old fashioned styled cars? |

| wahooskipper Mon 4/14/2008 1:07p | Yes, they were old fashioned. It is pretty clear to me because the first year I saw them the ride operator measured me and laughed b/c I was too small to drive my own car. The next year I was big enough.
I don't remember the street names but I seem to recall the ride went down the street the front entrance is facing and then went down almost to an intersection before coming back. It doesn't seem to me that the track was any more than an elongated oval.

swooping crows....possums crossing....broken bridges...an oil slick where you would spin in a circle....there are sooo many possiblities to spice it up a bit.
Or an occasional real character standing by the road hitch hiking and could climb in on single riders ..... or have the characters pull into the loading and pick up a single kid to ride with them. The characters would have to be the smaller ones to fit no big shoes....a pirate, peter, indiana, princess, |
