"Why does it bear repeating? It wasn't true then, and isn't true now."

If you're going to lie, lie big I always say.

<I've said it countless times here.>

And it's no more true now then it was any of the other times you said it.

***I'd have a lot more respect for people who aren't for gay marriage if they'd leave out the asinine arguments about polygamy and incest and animals. Own up and just say they don't like it because it creeps them out, or they can't relate to man/man or woman/woman, or their God refuses to allow it. All this superfluous stuff is indeed, crap, and adds nothing to a real discussion of the issues.***

Agreed 100%.

<---waves at four horsemen flying past window.

Thing is, all that superfluous crap isn't MEANT to add to a real discussion of the issues, and they know it. It's a simple debating technique used to deflect the argument away from the truth, which they can't reveal.

The vast majority of these people fall into one or both of two categories.

1) They're homophobic. Indefensible and thus unusable.

2) They're against it on religious grounds. Perfectly defensible so long as the churches keep backing it, but also unusable, as this is a matter of state and not religion.

So with the real issues impossible to use, what else do they have?

Debating techniques.

It's so obvious once you examine it.

Thought you guys might want to know, I have officially begun writing a BOOK about my experiences here on laughingplace, with particular emphasis on how the right wing operates in a microcosm.

Don't worry, I'll only use my own posts unless otherwise permitted by the authors.

Anyone who wants to have their stuff potentially included can email me though.

jammindave@hotmail.com

Douglas, if you chose to email me there might even be some money in it for ya down the line, you'd up the sale value just by being you!

<The vast majority of these people fall into one or both of two categories.>

Or they don't. What you attempted to do is a debating technique called a False Dilemna - say there are really only two possible choices when there are many.

You can't respond with logic or facts to the arguments presented, so you use debating techniques. It's so obvious once you examine it.

You want logic?

Here you go. Nobody with a shred of logical sense could draw a line between two men getting married and a person marrying a goat.

It's highly illogical.

>>BOOK about my experiences here on laughingplace<<

Maybe, in order to get the peak possible audience, you can have it serialized in the magazine.

Then I'll look for it at my local liquor store-slash-news stand. Call them, maybe you can set up a meet & greet, sign copies & whatnot.

;)

Tell you what, Douglas. Round up some people to state unequivocally that they are against gay marriage though their reasoning is unrelated or even largely unrelated to either personal opinion of homosexuals or matters of faith. If you can find twenty people to honestly state such a thing I will never post again on laughingplace, thus conceding the debate to you.

*I'll still reserve the right to consider you annoying and laughable though. It's funny how you've changed since everyone figured out what you were up to.

I haven't changed. And unfortunately, neither have you.

No stomach for my challenge there, tough guy?

Probably because it'd be impossible for you to back up.

Hell, I'd take that challenge on Rush Limbaugh's message board and still feel fairly confident. :p
