In my responses to the IASW debacle, I have been asked:

>>>Why are you so bitter? <<<

Disney used to wow and dazzle and show everyone the way. Either with or without characters, there was something to offer everyone. Disney used to have meaning and inspire as well as entertain. Now it mainly entertains, largely for the stroller set with the current direction of travel (or thrills).

I used to turn to Disney for comfort. Mainly like some turn to the bible. I know it's sad, but for me it is true. And as the rest of the world degenerates, America no longer stands for it's ideals. Industry look to cheapen and outsource. As I look to Disney to inspire me and show me there is a great big beautiful tomorrow, instead I see characters everywhere. I like characters to a degree. I also like Ice Cream, but I don't want to consume ice cream every meal. So it makes you sick, just like these darn characters.

Disney used to be about so much more. I think some of the venom is not just about proposed characters in IASW, it's the straw breaking the camel's back. The fans dare because they care. Joe public does not, and when they get bored, they will go somewhere else, after they have alienated the fan community. The future could be very bleak.

When this direction doesn't make Disney money any more, they will reshift their focus to what does make them money.

What you are all failing to realize is we do not make up Disney's core audience. Disney as any business should, focuses its effort on attracting their core audience...

But William, I am a business strategist, I have built businesses up that are very successful (going from a $1.2m pa to a $38m in three years). I know from my experience in business that you need vision and strategy as well as tactics (same issue with US incursions not working either).

Disney used to focus on long term ene the endurance, and as far as the parks are concerned, that meant 53 very successful years. I do not believe these tactics will pay off in the long term, they will not have the longevity of timeless attractions.

Why are Snow White and Pinnocchio walk ons compared to the others?

It's not because they are cartoon characters... the line for Peter Pan is insane. Snow White and Pinocchio are walk-ons because those rides suck. ;)

But Russ, I seriously think Peter Pan has a long line due to the unique ride system as opposed to the fact it's toon based. It could have been a version of Soarin over models and would still have an insane line.

***When this direction doesn't make Disney money any more, they will reshift their focus to what does make them money.***

I tend to disagree, only because I feel the company is being shortsighted.

I see it all the time. In fact I've watched hundreds of previously successful companies go out of business over the past year because of it (not all "small potatoes" either, some of the biggest names including some S&P 500 companies!)

They are trying to cut corners wherever they can, and only adding stuff "as cheap as possible" right now.

It might be somewhat appealing in a limited sense (like Nemo in the living Seas), at the moment, but in the long run it will kill them.

I agree with Dave.

I think it's popular due to a combination of things. It's not only the "unique ride system", but more that it's just overall a great ride.

Quality will out.

Simple as that.

(funny how the really expensive stuff with interesting, new concepts are almost ALWAYS the most popular rides! catch a clue, DISNEY!)

As long as Joe Rhoades is allowed to do his thing, we can always look forward to something amazing coming up at a Disney park. You may think Expedition Everest is just another example of catering to the thrill seakers, but look at the theming! The whole area is such a rich and cohesive experience. And not a character in site, aside from the occasional hidden Mickey.

Agreed EE gave me hope. But it was an issue as my kids waited bored while we did baby swap. thankfully there were monkeys near by...I am sure on daddy's day, Walt wanted a park where his kids could sit down and watch their parents ride ;-)

It would be wonderful if Walts son could keep his Fathers vision closer to his heart, he seems though to be re-thinking
alot of the stragists thinkings these days, things can change in a heart beat, Disney is all about making memories, it is a success storybook, sometimes we have bad scripts entwined thru out the pages which need to be re-written,thus keeping out the bad apples that try to take advantage of the Happiest Place on Earth, gee whiz..The first day the Peter pan ride left the ground it has never looked back, it has been soaring ever since, the children and Adults love the snowhite and pinnochio rides,Dumbo too, we need the colourful decor of such rides, it is not always about money, it is about memories that keep everyone coming back, the atmosphere is so wonderful and Happy, a mom once told her son who was a very successful lawyer who made lots of money , make memories william not money,
well he never listened his mom died unexpectedly a few short weeks later, he then received a package his mom had mailed to him, full of childhood memories
his life changed for ever....some of us can do both in this world make money such as dave and then still share the best of our time with those that we hold so dear, why do you think dave is so well liked by all on this site, he has a heart that continues to flourish thru out all adversities, the tink-mobile family is not wealthy , we love to make dreams come true for others before ourselves, some times we are taken advantage of, including by our once best friends , we do not regret what we did for them, we would do it again, they must now live with them selves for the rest of their lives, we have met great friends like Shiva and Tinkeroon....they are two of the most kindest people we have met...along with lorealle and chris and william of the howard johnson hotel...in disneyland , wow we are still been blessed, so get out their and ride those rides, Peter pan..snowhite , alice, tea cups, pinnochio , and others, live your dreams for to-day, their are many great friends out there , like Davewasballo and family, lulu, liveforvacations, murfsmom, darkbeer, logdog, crazycroc, belle, disnykid, disneygal,,liberty belle, just so many all of whom we have not met in person, but all and many more who have shared many special memories of disney and family with us, Dave keep sharing your heart, perhaps one day your voice shall touch the heart of someone who really believes in making memories where Dreams can come true , in the land of Disney....while staying out of the greed centre of that mighty dollar, which means very little to that smiling child in all of us , if you are a good stragist you can make all you need and still keep the Happiness of your staff and guests very much part of this magical dream, that a lil mouse started for us all one day, with just a small piece of cheese..take care...have a great day.
glad you are feeling better...Smiles from the Tink-mobile : )
