Thanks Tink Mobile. I am not exactly wealthy either (that money was made for investors - I did it to be able to focus on the quality - service improvement for the most vulnerable, better use of the public's tax money etc. - because we were/are good at what we do, people come back for more - all the time in school didn't teach me that - Walt did!!!!).

If the people at TDA and Glendale considered why they are there and what gives them their legacy, they could create a far better future to touch the heart and soul, and bring in revenue to appease investors. Most Disney investors own stock because they believe in the products. They should remember that

>>What you are all failing to realize is we do not make up Disney's core audience. Disney as any business should, focuses its effort on attracting their core audience...<<

>>Disney used to focus on long term ene the endurance, and as far as the parks are concerned, that meant 53 very successful years. I do not believe these tactics will pay off in the long term, they will not have the longevity of timeless attractions.<<

Both of the above referenced posts are hitting right on the mark and a synthesis of some sort will needed. WilliamK99 is right, people like us are "extreme enthusiasts" and make up an extremely small percentage of the available market, on the other hand the short term profit goal of a company should not impact long term health. It will be interesting to see how Disney responds.

I was watching a documentary that had clips from various experts on environmental issues and one, by a Stanford professor, struck me as being relevant:

"Somehow in the last few decades in business school, [MBAs] were trained that the object of business is growth, as if that were an end. It's not an end, it's a means. And if we flip the ends and means, then we can get the end back: QUALITY OF LIFE. We have to look at the contradictions because the wrong kind of growth reduces our quality of life."

To me, it feels like the current management at Walt Disney Parks & Resorts is so focused on growth as an end that producing a quality product is secondary. WDP&R seems to be dominated by a cadre of MBAs and marketing "geniuses" who throw out idea after idea of how to get butts in the parks and fleece those butts to the max (Year of a Million Dreams, DVC, hard ticket events) while minimizing overhead (reducing maintenance, park hours, salaries, new attractions, uniform merchandise, etc.).

It's frustrating because the greatness of Walt Disney Attractions was built by people who cared foremost about creating a quality product (like Walt Disney himself, for example). Now WDP&R management seem to be milking that legacy while simultaneously chipping away at the quality of the Resort - all in order to grow earnings, stock price, etc.

Iger may be a good relationship guy and dealmaker at the corporate level, but a CEO who really cared about the WDC legacy would be whipping WDW into shape rather than allowing Rasulo to let it rot (as long as growing returns can be squeezed out each year). Iger appears to be pretty removed from the Parks & Resorts side of the business. Eisner & Wells, in their early years, were extremely hands on in park development - and the result, for a time was great. Sadly, EuroDisney's early results changed everything.

Touche Randy, it is true. Before I took on my current role, I was a Snr Exec for an International PLC. The reason I left was I became sick of those behaviours. They are everywhere in every industry. For the last 10 years, as a part of my case for focusing on quality, I would use WDC as a case study on running a successful business driven by quality. Sadly, I cannot do that anymore. It depressed me, and thankfully I have moved to a firm where quality is our paramount purpose, and I feel at home. Now maybe one of the suits in Burbank could use us as a successful case study. lol

And spirit, I already knew you were kindred!
