Just saw 'Superbad' on pay-per-view last night. Boy, this movie got a lot of attention, and have to say...I just don't get it.

1. The language was too much. The three friends were having conversations were so foul and disgusting. Stuff that I never even thought in my head in high school. Would have been funnier with milder language. I'm just sayin'.

2. The three friends are total and complete NERDS. [yes, you know that] I was a nerd in high school, a band geek, not in the 'in' crown. But compared to these guys, I was the captain of the football team.

And the fact, that we're supposed to think that this chubby, curly-headed guy is getting all this action from girls, is ridiculous. He's so revolting, on so many levels, that no girl is going to like him. Let alone fall for his 'charm'

I like comedies. 'Tommy Boy' is one of my favorite movies of all time. Chris Farley at Tommy Callahan is chubby and crazy -- but he's also sweet and cares about his life.

'Pretty in Pink' has a whacked out sense of humor to it. Funny, and over-the-top, but also real.

What am I missing on 'Superbad'?

The other thing is this...

I would never allow my 13-year old daughter to see this movie. It's just not appropriate.

However, many of my daughter's classmates have seen 'Superbad' -- one of her friends -- a girl -- has it on DVD and watches it over and over again.

They're in 8th grade. This is NOT a movie to be viewed by jr. high school kids.

But I'm sure they all have.

I thought this movie was stupid. Not entertaining, not clever...

I'll veer off course. I thought the kid from Juno and Arrested Devlopment was funny. And McLovin and the cops cracked me up. But the character of Seth started wearing thin early and often. Knocked Up and the 40 Year Old Virgin are much better movies made by Judd Apatow.

Oh believe me kids do talk this way, sad as that is.

I thought it was funny enough, but forgettable, as over the top gross out comedies go. A lot of it felt "improv"-y to me, like a sketch that had a funny idea at its core but not really sure where to go from there.

But really, I'm having a heck of a time remember any of it, so I guess that says something.

Well, I never knew them.

Did they also use reims and reims of paper to draw pictures of penises?

What the heck is that about????

Nobody I know did that but I'll certainly say the kids in my high school weren't exactly innocent and this was a Catholic school.

Jim, I watched it just because DS26 brought it home. If anything, you are being too kind. I enjoy good stupid and this wasn't it. I didn't know whether to be offended or insulted by the time the movie ended...maybe a bit of both.

Plus, the overall woman-hating tone of the movie -- awful, gross, disgusting.
