I didn't take it that way. |

I generally don't see R rated movies anyway...so I wouldn't have caught it.>> Well arent you the superior one... |

| BigJim89 Mon 4/14/2008 3:50p | I just graduated last year and I have to say that the language in the movie was VERY COMMON at my high school, the penis book was overexaggerated a bit but it was not uncommon to see crude pictures at my old high school either. Truth is I enjoyed high school and enjoyed the movie, but I see your point Jim. The vulgarity can probably be a lot to people who aren't use to hearing/seeing it on a daily basis. |

| utahjosh Mon 4/14/2008 4:16p | What was that about, Spooky? I just mentioned that I didn't see it because I don't see R rated movies. What's superior about that? I'm sure many people see that as inferior or something. |

| brotherdave Mon 4/14/2008 4:21p | Funny. There was vulgarity in High School when I went in the late seventies, but, it seems more prevalant now (and much more freely used) among the youth today. Basically, songs didn't use it much as they do today either. A sign of the times, to be sure. And I'm certainly not in favor of this trend, either. Can't people have a conversation today without expletives?
And hearing the reviews of this film here, it doesn't give me much hope for the director's next film, "Adventureland", which was filmed at my local amusement park, Kennywood. I'm curious to see the movie, but have low expectations for it and not looking forward to the language and crude humor it will probably have. |

| TheRedhead Mon 4/14/2008 5:23p | I would never allow my 13-year old daughter to see this movie. It's just not appropriate."
Well then you're a good parent. It's rated R and inappropriate for a 13-year old. The parents who allow their kid to watch the movie over and over again are bad parents. End of story.
With that said, I loved the movie. I laughed from beginning to end. It was outrageous, and really just a modern update of a "Revenge of the Nerds" kind of movie.
And the language? I'm a high school teacher. If you just read the TEXTS of some of these kids you'd never stop throwing up. But they're not saying all kids talk like that - the writers talk like that, and they project that onto their characters, more than anything. |

| imadisneygal Mon 4/14/2008 5:32p | Thank you, Jim, for posting this. I turned this movie off about halfway through. It was horrible. And I am a big Judd Apatow/Seth Rogan/Jonah Hill fan. The language was over the top, and I totally agree on the woman hating/objectification thing. If that's what's really happening in high school today then I weep for the future. It wasn't like that for me when I was there. This movie was horrific and I did not think it was even a little funny. It had no point for me at all.
That said, I really enjoyed Knocked Up and The 40 Year-Old Virgin. Laughed myself silly at both movies (and even cried a little at Knocked Up!) |
