I actually watched that scene again last night. I think the best part is the reactions of the other actors.

Considering he really got waxed and they did the scene in one take it's pretty darn impressive! The reactions are definitely real and hilarious!

To me, Superbad was like watching a no-brainer movie that all you had to do was laugh. Jonah Hill's character was a bit over the top, however, I really thought Michael Cera did a great job as the sensitive one.

As for my 13 year old son seeing this movie....No Way! My 17 year old daughter saw the movie before me and told me that it was not appropriate for my son. After I saw it I realized that she was right.

There are some R rated films that I think someone younger than 17 could and should see. Schindler's List comes to mind, but this is definitely not for younger teens.

Dang, I'm in the minority. I really liked this movie. I do completely agree with this:

>>They're in 8th grade. This is NOT a movie to be viewed by jr. high school kids.<<

And I don't think the movie had any of the sweetness that Knocked Up had. But I thought it was a good laugh and pretty hilarious throughout. Jonah Hill's caustic character contrasted against Michael Cera was well done, IMO. I get that it might not be everyone's Cup 'o Tea, but it had me rollin'.

As an aside, I guess I've also never understood being bothered by language. Words only have as much power as we allow them to have. We're literally talking about the way your mouth forms a shape and air passes through your vocal chords to create vowels and consonants. Language isn't inherently offensive; we let it offend us. And yes, it's how kids talk. And I know that someone like Jim isn't saying they're a prude who's deeply offended by all bad language. I guess I'm just wondering, how much is too much? If we're not bothered by a little, then why be bothered by a lot?

It irritates me in movies because it's lazy writing. It takes no talent or cleverness to swear. Plus, the more a character curses, I start to tune them out. I'm not morally opposed to the swearing, it's just not entertaining when it's every other word.

I think it depends on the character in the movie. It can get annoying if it's a high schooler. But I would expect it if it's the cops and crooks of The Departed.

One reason why the language didn't bother me is that I have a mouth that would make Tarantino, Kevin Smith and the writers of this movie blush. I'm glad that LP has community standards to keep me in check.

One more thing and I'm not going to link it but on Wikipedia they have a listing of movies that feature the F word more than 100 times. Superbad came in with 176 uses. The Departed, Pulp Fiction, Resevoir Dogs and Goodfellas contained over 200 uses. Casino had almost 400. But the "champ" was a documentary about the word. 800 times in 90minutes. Yeah that would be a little too much.

>>800 times in 90minutes.<<

I think I did even more than that trying to program a VCR a few years ago.
