I am hoping they dump Ant Man in place of Thor, I really don't think Ant Man is marketable.

>>>For those who have seen it (I am overseas and unable to partake), is Samuel Jackson in the movie at all? A yes or no will suffice.<<<

Confirmed. He's in there.

I think an Ant-Man movie could be great fun - maybe even a bit of a throwback to the old horror movies like the Incredible Shrinking Man. It's being directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead) so it's got potential to be a little different from your standard super-hero fare.

Ant-Man could be Giant-Man by the time the Avengers movie gets here.

I love the idea of an Avengers movie, but It's going to be very difficult to make it believable with the range of characters they're looking at.

TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY!

This was utterly cool!

And what impressed me most ..
was an "intelligent" script that didn't go so entirely cheesy the way the last Spiderman movie went.

There was a "believability" from start to finish. Perhaps one or two Jeff Bridges lines .. that may have gone just a tad over-top .. but for the most part - EXCELLENTLY crafted script .. and plot set-up!

About Samuel Jackson ....
what a few of you are forgetting to mention ...........

AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT .......

If you can't sit through the end credits LIKE MOST PEOPLE DO .... YOU'LL MISS IT!

So ... don't be so impatient to stampede out of the theater the second the end credits start rolling.......

This isn't hard. ;)

Just make yourself cozy for through the 5 minutes of credits ......

and you'll see the final "Samuel Jackson" scene.

Being the first night ....
naturally the my auditorium was made up of the most dedicated fans ... in which 90% of a theater of 500 stayed for that little scene!

And with that ...........

here comes the sequel!

I thought it was great! One of the biggest problems I've had with several of these comic book adaptions is that the mild mannered alter ego is, by necessity, less interesting than the hero - not so in the case of Tony Stark! Usually, I just want to see the hero in action, not mope around inside their angsty alter ego. I found myself so wrapped up in his human exploits, that I wanted to see what he did next. It would have been so easy to make his lush womanizer unlikeable, but Downey infused a real sense of charm into the character.

Another big plus - no hair flipping or jazz dancing!

I also enjoyed that while this is an origin story, it wasn't bogged down with a full introduction for every character that Tony interacts with - their history isn't delivered through needless exposition, we get just enough from the script to know that Rhodey is a good friend to Stark, and Pepper is utterly devoted to her boss. I would have liked to see more interaction with Hogan, but I heard that Favreau cut down his own part to shorten the running time.

This was a great comic adaption. Overall, I hope we've seen comic book adaptions turn the corner. With Marvel taking control over their movie properties, I hope we'll see better movies which are truer to their comic roots. Incredible Hulk has me concerned, but I'm grooving on the homages to the Bill Bixby tv series. I just hope that from here on out, Marvel will put out better quality films than Ghost Rider, Elektra, and Fantastic Four (I know, it did well, and had a sequel, but I didn't hit the right notes for me for some reason I'll have to get into later).

Great observation. I can't think of an interesting alter ego since Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne. And Peter Parker isn't even likable.

I was reading yesterday that Favreau wasn't really happy with the script when they started filming. They made a lot of changes on the set the day of the shoot, apparently with a lot of involvement from Downey. But the result is pretty impressive.

And yeah, I thought the movie just flew by, so they did a great job with the pacing.

I went with a bunch of friends expecting not to like it, but I must say that I did enjoy it. I've never been one for the comic book movies, as I really don't know anything about their backgrounds and they're just too fanciful while pretending to be realistic for my tastes (loved Narnia which was more pure fantasy). While this one clearly couldn't happen in reality, it was grounded enough in real situations (interactions between people more than anything else) that it worked for me.

The special effects didn't really seem to totally take over, and they allowed enough of them to be non-CGI that it worked well. When others constantly rely on computers (King Kong, Spiderman) it starts to look too fake, but this really was a pretty good balance.

The script was predictable, but it reminded me of the best Disney films. You know what's coming without having any prior knowledge, but you still want to see it happen. It was cheezy without being too schmaltzy. A very fine line to walk, but it did a great job.

Another thing that I tend to notice more than most people is the music, which really helped this movie along. The score was grand at times, but never overpowering. It was well integrated into the whole film, and really added to it.

I'm definately not the type of person who would pick this movie at the theater (I probably would have chosen Baby Mamma if it was up to me), but I definately enjoyed it. I'm not sure if I enjoyed it enough to want to see a sequel though...

Although I'm a big comic book fan, I've never been into Marvel so I haven't read Iron Man before, but I saw this today for BIL's birthday and really enjoyed it! I thought it might have been a bit silly / corny, but it really wasn't. I thought it explained his story well without getting boring or slow. And of course, I love Robert Downey Jr :D

I hear rumors Marvel is going to hold a press conference today, announcing Iron Man II for May 2010 and either Ant Man or Thor in 2010 as well...

Things are looking up for Marvel films, this risk has thus far paid off for them.
