That's exactly my sentiment on it.

My partner saw the blurb on the cover about it being one of TIME Magazine's 100 Best Novels and he was a bit surprised about that. (No matter what I say or do, he's still and always will be of the mind that comics are not a legitimate storytelling format for adults.) I told him not to read too much into that since TIME Warner owns DC...

Give him Fables and see if he changes his mind.

Nah, it won't work. Hell would freeze over first. He has almost no interest in fiction. 90% of what he enjoys reading is non-fiction: history, food, biography. About the only fiction he reads is mysteries (especially Agatha Christie and Rex Stout).

I am trying to get him to at least look at things like "Stuck Rubber Baby" by Howard Cruse, "Maus" by Art Spiegelman, or "Fun Home" by Alison Bechdel. (I recommend all of the above to just about anybody.) "Chiaroscuro" is another good one. It's about the life of Leonardo da Vinci as told from the point of view of a man who was most likely da Vinci's longtime companion. Vertigo put this one out a few years ago.

It would be cool if I could get him to read "Identity Crisis" just to see how a complex adult story about superheroes can be told. I was flipping through that last night, and I just love the scene where Deathstroke takes down the entire JLA.

Did you pick up Brad Meltzer's latest novel Book of Lies? It sort ties in the origin of Superman in it.

Haven't read it but plan to look for it at the library. I wish he'd write more stuff for DC.

I just finished Book of Fate. It was good, but I was hoping for more Masonic stuff in it. I think I read he was doing something soon for DC. Either a Final Crisis tie in or a Batman special. I'll try to find it again.

I think it's called Final Crisis: Last Will and Testament.

I've been blissfully unaware of all that's going on during Final Crisis. I figure I'll get the inevitable trade paperback.
