I don't really think it looks bad - and I'm against adding any Disney characters. It looks like a nice update of the attraction - though I really wish they had gone with flooded show scenes - the flume just looks cheesy.

As for the Disney characters, they didn't really add anything to the show - which just furthers my point that this will do NOTHING to introduce these characters to the Chinese. If you don't know who Simba is before riding Small World, you won't after you get off. So, I still don't really get why they're there - except to sell plush.

Oh, the one thing I did find distracting was the addition of the Disney music. It was hard to make out in the Europe section, but I could clearly hear A Whole New World, and it just sounded distracting. I really hope they don't do this at Disneyland. But I would like to see them implement some of those new lighting effects - and it would be great to change the finale to the carnival scene.

This is by far the worst version. Characters not withstanding, there are dolls missing, scenes rearranged which make no placement sense, music changed, and the finale is SMALL. And where did those new lighting FX they bragged about in the finale go? As for the characters the worst offenders are by far teh Cindy scene. This scene SCREAMS "im going to jump in your boat and your going to buy me at the end". I mean the scene is the only one in the Euro section that is practically ON the ride trough. And you can DEFINITLY hear Bibbdi Bobbdi Boo. It DOES Marty, Dave, and Kim take you OUT of the ride and the message and makes you focus and THINK of Cindy Prince and Bibbidi Bobbdi Boo. The rest looked like toys so that didnt bother me THAT much. The LK ones were stuck in the back which made them complety worthless and what was the point of the JB one? Baloo is WHITE? Doesnt look like Baloo and the Mogi AA, well you cant tell its Mogli unles you know its Mogli beofre hand. So that was stupid too. Oh the Nemo cutouts were AWFULL as well

"It was hard to make out in the Europe section"

Are you kidding? I thought this was the worst offender and adulturization. Bibbidi Bobbdi Boo is heard in France, England, and the beginning of Spain!! Thats how loud and disgracefull it is. And said Cindy scene is practically pushing itself on the flume.

Well, I think we can rest our case as to whether dolls dolls dolls CHARACTER!! is going to be a distraction. More characters and it would be a character ride. No characters and it would be IASW. As it is, it's schizo. You have a lot of anonymous dolls, and then all of a sudden a few very un-anonymous characters every 30 seconds or so. They don't gel. It's like Father Abraham and the Smurfs. One of these things is not like the others.

Why do they start the experience with snow? Am I the only one confused with this? Is it some sort of Chinese thing?

I'm going to assume that this is not Imagineering's idea of Mary Blair style. Because if it is, they should be sued for gross negligence. Imagineering seems to have forgotten how to create pleasing color schemes (and Mary Blair was ALL about pleasing color schemes if she was about anything). Some scenes are OK, but in others (all of Europe in particular) it looks like technicolor paint barf. I just keep trying to tell myself that there are talented people still in Imagineering and it's just a few management pinheads who are messing things up for us. Then I see something like this. You can't blame the management pinheads for using an ugly color scheme.

I'm also going to assume that in the final scene there was some sort of white balance problem with the camera, and that it isn't really that YELLOW. One improvement I approve of - having most stuff at eye level in the last scene so you can see it.

Seems more plywoody and less 3D than the DL version. Maybe I'm just imagining that, or maybe it's just a poorer job of placing the painted flats, or maybe it's just a crummy video.

I don't understand why the A Whole New World flute is turned up so LOUD. Talk about distraction! If anything, it's even worse than the characters. I also found it interesting that the various music tracks aren't quite in sync starting in South America. I thought they'd solved this problem several years ago. Well, it IS a soft opening.

Hey, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo DOES almost match the chord structure of the IASW theme. Unfortunately it's in 6/8 time, so it sticks out just as bad as A Whole New World does. And so early in the ride? Jeez, establish the theme song first, and then mess around with it!

I see that the arrangers couldn't get Under the Sea to fit at all. Betcha they were ordered to try, though. Tee hee.

Scary: some of the music tracks appear to be the original Worlds Fair ones. This to me increases the likelihood that we'll get something more similar than not to what we see here.

A perfectly entertaining, if slightly baffling ride. But only if you have nothing to compare it with.

"I mean the scene is the only one in the Euro section that is practically ON the ride trough."

Where in the video do you see this? I watched again, and I have yet to see where the Cinderella section is.

I did hear Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo this time - the sound quality on that video is a mess, so it's hard to make things out. The song does sound strange and out of place - as I said before, I hope Disneyland's version does not incorporate the changes to the music.

Two more things:

(1) That YouTube posting has interesting timing. Late late late Friday night. If I were Oliver Stone, I could make something of that.

(2) Memo to Admins - please don't move this topic to HKDL where nobody's going to find it. IMHO, its relevance to DL trumps its origins at HKDL.

I guess I must have unsophisticated tastes or something, because it looks fine to me.

Looks good to me, almost like the dolls have always been a part of the ride.
Seemlessly blended into the ride. I hope Disneyland's is very similiar.

Personally, this "adding Disney characters" to IASW is extremely overrated. As IASW has grown pretty boring throughout the years, I am all for a little spicing up. I didn't really see any Disney characters in this video. Or, they were so well placed, it didn't bother me.

Hooray Mr. Sklar, you have a fan here and greatly look forward to the updated IASW at Disneyland (I also greatly approved of the much better, and thankfully shorter, Tiki Bird show in Florida, making it more current vs. the snoozefest that populates Walt's Park)
