Also, one has to ask. did Disney lie to itself and to us? Since the first press release and even that video w/ the HK Ambassador, they said this would be EXCLUSIVE to HKDL. This from PR and the HK Ambassador. But then they decide in the middle that its going in SOME form to DL? ummmmmmmm.........

"No, adding characters to the ride is part of the "larger issue" at DLR, so it isn't unfounded at all."

It (the uproar) was based on the argument that these particular changes were going to "ruin" the ride somehow. From what I can see in the HKDL video this is really not the case. It it different? Well, yeah sort of, but hardly enough for the casual observer to even notice. The level of noise online over this has been out of line with what is actually being done. Of course, I am assuming that the DLR version will be similar to what is posted online from Hong Kong. Maybe next year I'll be eating my words.

I do agree though that on a larger scale the wholesale overuse of characters throughout the Resort is a bad thing.

Yeah, and they also said that the Electrical Parade was gone from DL forever. Yet there it is in what used to be the parking lot. Things happen.

<< did Disney lie to itself and to us?>>

IMO, you're making a yourself crazy with outrage. PR talk should not be taken so seriously. So what if they said it was exclusive, and so what if DL's refurb may borrow some of the ideas, whole or in part?

>>-99% of Americans still have no clue IASW is changing, let alone have an opinion on it.>>

My husband heard about it on NPR.

I've watched a couple of versions on youtube and now I'm pretty depressed about the changes. I'm glad my kids got to go on the original version. The characters and music changes spoil the ride for me.

Oh, now, threeundertwo. You know, Walt wanted the park to change, you see, so this is something we should just embrace. The ride will be more relevant now, because while children of the world might not care about seeing children of the world, they'll like seeing Disney characters of the world.

The message of this ride is that it's the worldwide fondness for Disney characters that ultimately unites us all.

I never got to go on the original version but I am sure it's better than that video. Why change the song though? If they're going to ruin it that much, juet call it, "It's a different (or changing) world"?

>>I mean, I know we are Disney dorks here, but c'mon, the conspiracy theories are a little too out there, even for this place ;).<<

<<I agree that you'd need a heckuva lot of evidence before you should seriously buy into these conspiracy theories, but there's a heckuva lot of evidence in that video. And it's not something I'd put past them, after seeing the tone and content of their other recent communiques. They're obviously REALLY determined to convince us that it's a good thing. But yeah, on the face of it, it's pretty out there.

Let's just file it under "peculiar, but inconclusive" and move on to other things.>>

Yeah, okay, but its just seem odd that its a 'conspiracy' when Disney has put the information out there for us fans months ago already. Who DOESN'T know by now the amount of characters going into this ride?? If you care enough to watch it on youtube, chances are you care enough to look at the web site, press releases, stuff put up a long time ago, as well. We simply didnt know which characters were going to be there. Besides, people, this is HONG KONG DISNEYLAND we are talking about, N-O-T Anaheim, the 98% of people who visits that park and will experience it are Chinese or HK residents and I can promise you 98% of them won't know anything about this controversy or won't care.

It just seems odd to me that by somehow limiting the character views of THIS attraction, its some strange way to reaffirm that 'everything will be okay' in Anaheim freaking 8 months from now or somehow its to convince people to see this attraction because there are less characters (although we been told countless times how many there are)? Really, what's the idea behind it?? I mean, its really odd to me, that's all. If Disney REALLY wanted to 'stop' people from seeing all these characters so early A. Most simple thing, no camera's or video of A-N-Y kind during the soft openings just LIKE they have done for Finding Nemo ride and others B. They would've hired a professional cameraman and they would've put highlights on their own website where the information is controlled. How simple that is?

Instead, it just seems silly to me out of the 'one' video they got on youtube, that somehow people were going to ignore all the others that will obviously come out as well or by some design focus attention on that specific video, which looks strictly like a tourist video like the rest.

Again, moving on, but really when people talk like this, we then wonder why others look at us Disney freaks....as freaks ;). We are lowering ourselves to the Trekkies lol.

Almost.

There's something seamless about Baloo and Mowgli's placement. They're just shoved in next to the reflecting pool and the Taj Mahal. And don't even get me started on the Little Mermaid scene...
