We all know that there are things we absolutely have to have everytime we go to Disneyland and ones that people rave about that we vow we must try. I keep a list and I keep adding to it!
However, sometimes you try something you think will be great as everyone raved about and you find you don't like it.
Last time, I tried the bacon wrapped asparagus skewers at the Bengal BBQ.
I do not know what I was expecting but I did not like what I got!
For some reason I thought that the bacon would be crispier although in hindsight I could see how that might be difficult to wrap around the asparagus.
I found it to be a greasy, overcooked piece of asparagus with an undercooked piece of bacon wrapped around it.
I ordered the bread there too for my children and it didn't impress me either.
Another place we tried after reading about it was the Plaza Inn.
After reading so many good reviews about it, we were disappointed.
I could not believe that the mashed potatoes were "instant" and the gravy was cold. I guess I expected more for meals that I felt were quite expensive!
So many people felt it was good value but we didn't feel that way!
Anyone else out there had similar experiences they would like to share?
Please make sure you tell us why you didn't like something!

I do like the Plaza Inn, but I too have always heard good things about Bengal BBQ and was disappointed. I also ordered the bacon-wrapped asparagus. I thought it was fine, but positively tiny for the $ it cost.

I was also disappointed with Boma at the AKL, WDW. I'm glad I tried it, and the food was "good," but it probably wouldn't be on my list of restaurants to dine at on my next trip to the World.

I try not to eat inside the parks at the Disneyland Resort anymore. Too much time, too much money, not special enough to make it worth it. I do eat at the hotels still.

I miss the old Big Thunder BBQ.

The food inside the parks is for the most part mediocre and very expensive.

I think our family prefers the giant corndogs to just about all of the other food in the parks.

If I could choose which thing I wish they'd improve, I'd say the coffee.

This is definately one area that has declined since the pre-Eisner days. DL food used to be something really special (and some of it still can be) - but a lot of it has become a lot more "pedestrian" over the years. Gee, back in the height of DL's dining, there was the Tahitian Terrace; Big Thunder BBQ; Casa Mexicana (liked that better than Rancho del Zocalo); Plaza Pavillion; Egg House (used to be on Main Street across from the Opera House); Carnation Plaza (it's still a stage, but no more Ice Cream/Burgers (they had the best Burgers at DL); Space Place (used to be "hidden" alongside Space Mountain (there is outdoor dining for Redd Rocketts there now); and, of course, everyone's favorite, the Tuna Boat in Fantasyland (though, I do prefer the 1980's version of Fantasyland overall to the original).

Just discovered R2P2 is miles better than Pizza Oom Mow Wow (or whatever it's called). I thought it'd be the same, but man that pizza was really DRY.

Anyone remember the bacon wrapped scallops at the Harbor House right after Splash opened? Man those were GOOD!

Sjdimon & Autopia Deb, I remember those! Why does it seem like the dining & food are
going down hill now at disneyland? Also, why isn't there that many resturants and California Adventure?

I am hoping that DTD will step it up a notch (more like 2!) once the Garden Walk's restaurants all open up.

I too agree that the food at the DLR is not worth the $$$.

^^^My beef with DtD eateries are the lines. Even when half the tables are empty you can end up waiting 30-60 minutes for a table. Its just easier to hop into the car an grab a bite on Harbor.
