I live in louisville Kentucky and every year two weeks before the Kentucky Derby we hold Thunder Of Louisville to start the two week celebration of the derby, which consist of the annual balloon race, steamboat race, Pegasus parade, marathons, chuck wagon, concerts, parties, and many other things.
Now Thunder Of Louisville Is a nonstop thirty minutes of fireworks that are set off over the Ohio river between Kentucky and Indiana, and when I say fireworks, I mean FIREWORKS. They have to use two water barges, a bridge, canons to set off the tons and tons and tons of fireworks that people from all over the country come to see.
Every year I get to see this spectacle, but I'd rather see the seventeen minute spectacle that is called Wishes. I love that show so much more than Thunder, because of its scale, simplicity and the way it is synchronized to the music. Yeah Its cool to see thirty minutes of fireworks but nothing beats a good wish.

I know exactly what you mean. I've spent the last several (probably at least 5 out of 8) 4th of July's at Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia, where they do a similar display. It's hosted by two marinas on opposite sides of the lake (it's kind of shaped like a pot leaf-for lack of a better shape-and they're on peninsulas near the center) who shoot off fireworks. One goes for about 15 minutes, then there's about a 30 second pause, followed by another 15-20 minutes at the other one, withe grandest of grand finale. We always go out and watch it from a peninsula near us, and look at the boats as well (there are probably 1,000+ motor boats with the navigation lights on just floating). The reflections of the fireworks and nav lights really make it something special.

But at the same time, I can never get over how boring it is. It's just the same thing over and over, with slight variations. I usually start singing songs to myself quietly to pass the time, but it still doesn't really help. I love Remember at Disneyland more than any other fireworks show I've ever seen (it makes Wishes look like a 4th of July display), and I've definatley been spoiled by it. In general, I'm not a huge fan of fireworks (Believe Holiday doesn't do much for me either), but Remember just seemed to strike a chord (so to speak) with me, and it's been a favorite since my first viewing.

On the bright side, most 4th displays are still better than the TDR fireworks, which consist of no more than 5 minutes of random shells with Disney music in the background, with a finale that I wouldn't really call grand.
All times are Pacific Time (US)
